Shouldn't there be a hole in one of the 2 bushings of the generator?

I want to replace both bushings of my TD generator.
The generator has an oiler (6) on one side, however there is no hole in the respective bushing (7).
I am not a mechanical engineer, but I guess that this won't work.
By the way: all major MG TD parts suppliers appear to sell hole-less bushings. My original bushing does not have a hole either.

Should I drill a hole in the new bushing after installing it?
If so, what size?

Won’t, I’ve never taken the generator apart, but I belive this is an open pore bronze bushing which is permeable to oil. A trick I learned with bronze bushings is either pre-soak them in oil a day before installing, or (if short on time)hold your thumb on the bottom end, fill the bushing with oil, and squeeze the top end with your finger, creating hydraulic pressure. The bushing will start to “sweat” oil, filling it’s pores.

The Oiler keeps the bushing wet with oil at all times.

No hole, oilite porous bronze bushing which absorbs the oil from the felt lubricator. Yes preoil the bushing.

The bushing is sintered bronze, the porosity of which is supposed to wick the grease (Ref. D) applied to the lubricator felt. Modern grease has a different viscosity than the grease of the 30's used on our cars, so today's oil is probably just as good. I use 90w oil, and re-apply frequently.

Rebuilt my Generator last year and replaced both bushing and bearing. No Hole as it is sintered bronze, it is porous enough to allow the oil from the oiler to soak in via the wick. As someone said, it has worked just fine for so many years - must be sufficient.
I have always heated bronze bushings (120 F) submerged in oil in the oven. To help ensure all the air is pulled out of the bronze bush. Only when the wife was out though. Some have said soaking in oil for 24 hours is enough as well.

Thanks to all of you for your very useful information. It made me a bit wiser again by the end of the day.

(Oil "tunneling" through brass and doing so getting to places where you wouldn't expect it. That sound almost like quantum mechanics).
