When I had all my MGTF chrome plating done several years ago by a local and reputable custom plating shop I missed having the 16 chrome trim pieces that surround the side curtain windows plated. Now the enviro wacko's have since shut down all the custom platers here in Oregon. All that remain are a few commercial platers who wont touch this type of work. Can anyone reccomend a shop, preferably in the west, that can replate the trim? Thanks, Keith

I’m was planning to have some work done this spring and am also on the hunt. There was a shop in Vancouver wa. Called “nw plating” that was doing good work a a few years ago, not show quality but good. They were taking forever, months. However I believe the son took over the shop a while a go and have not talked to anyone who has had work done recently. I have a couple of people I can contact who do restorations that may be able to make recommendations.

I thought those were stainless steel and would just need polishing?

I just had my grille shell repaired and re-plated. They did an excellent job. Paul's Chrome Plating in Evans City PA. Check out their website

There are a number of platers in Dallas. I have my headlights there now. If they come back gook, I will use them for my other chrome. Not cheap, $500 for two chrome headlights and outer rims. But they are removing a few small dents and some scratches.

I will post how they come out as soon as I get them back.

I highly recommend these guys: https://www.artbrassplating.com/

I had them do all of the bits for a Magnette I restored (damn near 200 pieces - 20 in the grill alone...)

They are not fast, they are not cheap, but they do really great work - and that includes making bits straight and dent free too. AND, they do not lose things!

I had some TF parts plated at Ogden Chrome in Ogden Utah several years ago. I was very satisfied with the results.
The parts were in good condition, so I chose the "street plating" since the car was a driver, not a show car. There were no flaws in the finish.

Plating is getting more difficult this side of the pond as well, my local plater has two years backlog, and won't accept any new work.
I have persuaded him to strip my parts, and I will do all the polishing myself, then he's happy to plate them following this.
I am also happy to save the cost of polishing, a job which I enjoy anyway.

Mike

I think it depends on where you are Mike. I have a choice of two within 20miles and whilst its a matter of weeks wait, its not years, which sounds crazy. I think its less expensive (but certainly not cheap) in the UK as well.

As reported by Joe above, I pulled one piece off one of my side curtains and applied a magnet, these pieces are indeed manufactured from stainless and just need polishing up. Thanks, Joe.

Mine, which I believe to be original, are definitely brass. I cleaned them up as seen in the picture and had them re-chromed.

Well shoot, brass would react to a magnet in the same way. I'll double check.

You maybe some real money and time ahead to buy a repo set. How often are they going to be seen and especially if you store them in their box?

It is interesting how much of our cars are made from brass. I would surmise that after the war, there had to be a lot of scrap brass. I was taking the paint off my tappet cover and was going to media blast it, but then decided to just use paint stripper on it. Turns out the tappet cover is brass. It may be a good idea to list all the parts that are brass. That may be helpful for others.

I know the radiator shell is brass, the radiator cap is brass, Tappet cover is brass

Side curtain trim is brass.

Side markers are brass.

Not sure about the headlights, but probably?
