Okay, the question is off-the-wall.

I'm trying to remember what I paid, back in 1975, for a station wagon with bad front shock absorbers, no horn, and a tailgate window that wouldn't roll down. Needed paint.

I was 20 at the time. Didn't know much about cars. Paid cash.

Any ball-park ideas of what would have been reasonable?

Thanks,

Happy Motoring!!!

Paul A.

In the early 70s, a local Chevy dealer ran a promotion for a few months where they'd sell some cars for $8 plus tax and license. You'd put your name in, and they'd pick names for 5 or 6 cars. I got a '67 Ford Country Sedan with a 289, auto, and A/C. No dents or rust, but the paint was very dull.
It ran rough, so I checked the compression and found two low cylinders. I pulled the heads and two exhaust valves had good sized chunks burned away.
A head gasket set, two new exhaust valves, and some hand lapping resulted in a great running car that I drove for over 50,000 miles, including a couple of cross country trips.
I sold the car in the late 70s for $400 to a young family that was very happy to get such a great running car for so cheap.

Paid $100 for an AMC Hornet X wagon. It was rusted pretty bad but ran extremely well. Shoulda kept it.

Oh I thought you were referring to a home grown wagon - missed the 'yank tank' connection.
