Like the dummy I am, I mistakenly posted in the MGB section this question and really have not received any answers so I am posting it here in the correct forum.
I have an MGC steel hood that aim restoring and when the paint was stripped to the bare metal, I saw the the bonnet did not have the six holes drilled in for the decorative chrome strip.
From what I understand, the steel bonnet was a factory replacement for the original aluminum hood. Did these replacement hoods come with pre drilled holes? or did they leave it up to the owner to drill them? Thanx to all who respond

Interesting comment. On any steel bonnet I have stripped and painted that question never entered my mind as all the holes appeared the same (pre drilled).

That's an interesting question. I have one spare new/old stock steel bonnet that needs the holes drilled. I had another a couple of years ago and that needed the holes drilled as well.So it would appear that you had to drill the holes yourself.

Thanks for your input. Since all my steel bonnets had the trim piece the holes were already there so I made the assumption they were pre drilled but looks like thats incorrect.

On my stock alloy MGC bonnet from a 1969 car...

There are six holes all 1/8" in diameter.

The outer two holes are located one inch (1" ) inboard from the beginning of the bulge. These two holes are spaced 1/4" down (to the front of the bonnet) from the crease of the bulge.

The other four holes are evenly spaced five inches (5" ) apart on center beginning with either of the outer two holes. These four holes are spaced 3/8" down (to the front of the bonnet) from the crease of the bulge.

You can see these holes from the bottom side of the bonnet in the absence of a bonnet liner.

Hope this helps.

Rick, thank you for the info on the location of the mounting holes. I was wondering where to best drill the most outboard holes. The other four I will just evenly space them Thanks again for the pics and the info.
