Is a T handle choke cable correct for a '69?

Does an MGB choke cable work?

Thanks.

Thon,

Shaun is correct, but it will work. When I bought my CGT it had a T handle choke cable. With the padded dash it was a bit difficult to get a hold of, but it worked. I have since replaced it with the proper cable which has a round know with what looks like a fan symbol on it and the word LOCK. See photo.

Both of my Cs have T handles, and I guess they could have been replaced, but I've had them a long, long time...........

I'd think the T handle is easier to pull. Is that not what you found?

Thanks.

I switched mine for the T shaped handle because it was easier to pull on with my arthritic fingers. It doesn't lock but my car only needs choke for a few seconds. I find the choke action is very stiff and have considered adding a spring to assist

The B and C choke cables are not the same. The C pull is round and locks as seen in Bill's post #3 above.
Also the bonnet release cables differ from the B and C. VB sold MGB cables for many years to fit the MGC, they are too short. I guess you know who carries proper MGC parts.

FWIW, my 59 Mini 850 had a round, locking choke cable that looks identical to the picture and they are still available I think. I don't know if the cable would be long enough though

I guess you need to ask Bruce in Oz this question, since he has had his car from new,and I can't imagine he's ever used the choke, so it's bound to be original!

I wish it was a loop that I could hook my finger into. I am going to need a pry bar to get it opened far enough to lock.

I have a T-handle MGB choke cable (with lock) in my car, it fits fine. I've always had a T-handle. In fact, I just replaced it last summer when the previous cable was sticking. The only one available locally was for an MGB.

My previous post was misleading. The OEM choke cables have seen 3 iterations. Currently the late NA spec version has a round control as posted above visually. PN AHC754, NOT the same as MGB PN which first used a round pull knob marked "C" PN AHH6725 to 1968 and later a T style knob BHH2064.

I was mistakenly speaking of the lower control bonnet release which had a round knob and is NLA. I've edited my error.

Bill,
I hear you. You could try using a heavy duty tie wrap to make a loop...

Thanks for all the info: Sounds like if I want another T handle the MGB would work, but may or may not lock. Sound right?

I think either locks in the choke position. What I don't understand is why you would install an incorrect part when the proper unit is available and actually less expensive than the T handle MGB. confused smiley
