I think that the 5 started in 64, having seen some pull handle cars titled as 64 with factory 5s in them, complete with a special tag from the factory.

October of 1964 is when they started making the 5 main engined cars. There was a transition period where the pull handles were made with the 5 mains and these gave way to the push button doors later in early 1965. My car was made in October 1964, it arrived in the US in April 1965 and was referred to as a 1965 model car.

I've seen some late models advertised for sale with new 3 bearing engines like it's a good thing. Go figure.

It's a mistake usually.
Few put a 3main and non synchro into a Mkll and later.
Some people dont know a 3 main from their elbowswinking smiley
