Is it just me. or is this a strange car body number?
Shouldn't it be GAN and not GHN?

Original owner.
Purchased '72 in Santa Cruse, Calif.

Somethings weird. Or someone who originally stamped the plate screwed up. The GHN means it from an MGB roadster. The 5 means it from 1969. Then its gets strange--the UC series began in 5/71 as 1972 year models. But the six digit s/n you show appears to be 121577 which would backdate the build to April, 1967 which would be a GHN 3 series which were up thru 1967 model year end. Somethings very ODD if this is on a Midget. What does the tag on the door B post say? Is this on one of your '72 Midgets?

I pulled info from both Clausager's Original MGB and Horler's Original S & M as well as the Moss catalog. May a pm to Lloyd Faust aka Balloonfoot might shed some light

If this is on your '72 Midget you can legitimately call it a MG MGB MIDGET!! A very rare car!devil smiley

Wow... somebody goofed !

Now this is not the "body number", its the Car or Chassis number or VIN.

Other than the "H", all is correct for a 1972 Midget built in Jun 72. As noted above, it should be GAN5UC121577G.

An MGB built in that month would have had a six-digit sequence number around 288577, not 121577.
