I may be wrong but I believe the horn should the steering wheel for a 1971. I think only the late models (78-79?) with the full vinyl covered steering wheels used the turn signal stalk for the horn.

Yep - Horn knob. My steering wheel is off of a 71 (at least that’s what the seller told me).

I'm new to this group and to my Midget too however just sorted horn and indicator stalk problem.

Enclose a photo of my 74 with the stalk before replacement with steering wheel removed and you can see the copper clip that rubs on the back of the steering back of wheel and powers the horn. The horn push completes the circuit to earth on the steering column. Note that the clip on the column (cancels the indicator after turning) was not in the correct position, just one of the problems I needed to fix.

Second picture shows the new stalk and horn contact. Ignore the lower one in my hand, just comparing old one with new one. Old one so worn struggled to get it to touch back of steering wheel.

Hope this helps.

Fraser

My 70 uses the stalk, but it was built in 69. Many parts I need are for a 69, and some are from a70 and occasionally a part from a 64. Who knows what you need. Just part of the puzzle
