Hi all,

Trying to wrestle the hood open, (frozen cable), and trying to remove grill for better access.

Thanks in advance. Happy Thanksgiving

Jay

Hi Jay,

There are 4 screws on top, and two more from below (tabs from the bottom edge to the radiator shield lower flange).

Once you have the screws out, the rivets holding the surround pieces to the fenders often act like detents, restricting movement of the grille out of the opening. Simply give the grille a good, sharp pull and it will snap past those bumps.

When reinstalling, some leave out the lower screws (a pain to get to, and don't really do much). But, for 100points at Pebble Beach...

On my 1971 those 4 screws Norm mentions can only be removed after the hood is opened, they go straight down from the top of the grille tap through the support.

As mentioned, you can't get the screws out until you can open the hood. See the picture in your other thread and get a hook of some kind and insert through one of the grill openings and grab the release lever/cable and pull it toward the (U.S) driver's side to see if you can unlatch it. Also, have someone push down/wiggle the hood while trying to decrease the spring tension.
