Hi: I need a little advise on the midget / triumph 1500 oil filter adapter. Is it required? I have seen some pictures of motors that are not using the adapter. What is it's purpose and can it be deleted? I am using this motor in a different application and it will make the steering linkage easier if I can delete it. Thanks for answering Bill

Hi Bill, I really don't know anyone with an MG who uses the old style filters. They use regular spin-on filters, hand-tightened. All you need is the screw adapter, and they are common and cheap. In fact my '76 came with the adapter when I bought it new from the dealer. It's just a two sided screw-in with threads on one side for the block receiver and on the other a normal screw size for a filter. Don't know your application since you didn't say what it is, but the spin-on filter is a lot shorter than the old ones and clears everything in Midgets and Spits that I've had. Is this your first MG/Triumph?

Regards,

Richard

I took mine off as I see no reason for it. All you have to do is unscrew the nipple in the adapter and it’ll screw right into the block once you get the adapter off.
