Need a little advice here, when I first start up my 1622 cc MGA it back fires through the rear carb. Had distriburor rebuilt by Advance Distributors, new plugs, wires, rotor, points & cond. etc. was back firing before rebuild of distributor. Also now will run on after shutting engine off. Runs rough until it warms up! Can still feel a miss when running 1000 rpm or better. Any ideas would be helpful.

Glad you found the problem Ersa!! It's frustrating when something should be working but isn't... but feels great when you finally find the missing piece of the puzzle doesn't it!!

Well, guess I was wrong, still have the back firing through the rear carb. Most of the time this is after it is first started up and has not reached temperature. Bah, sure didn't build this "A" to work on! Ha! Added to the list above, is readjustment of valves. Any Ideas would be helpful! Thanks!

Did you ever get it sorted out Ersa?

You might have more than one issue going on.

Several things could cause the backfire. If it's only the rear carb, have you checked simple things like the oil in the dashpot? Or the fuel mixture? What do the spark plugs look like?

Oil in the dash pot is good, new plugs / wires, set valve clearances, readjusted timing, opened jet 3 1/2 flats, had distributor rebuilt and recurved, checked vacuum. Engine does not run on when shut off, but still has some spitting when first start up, but little after engine warms up.
