1965 MG Midget 1965 MG Midget

I purchased the car about a year ago and simply have no time. My loss is your gain. The link below is from prior owner, the gentleman I purchased the car from, a reputable dealer in California, and can provide more info and detailed photos than I ever could. Items I have purchased for the car and included in the sale are; new alloy rocker cover, vintage roll bar, and a few trim pieces. This is a great driver, totaly street legal, and very quick. Its a Rivergate 1275, bored .30 over with Pierce head, light flywheel, dual SU's (brand new), header with stainless exhaust. The body is a very solid original California example in rare Mineral Blue, with very minor rust at lower left quarter. The car is a former road rally car that has huge potential for auto cross, club racing, or weekend cruiser, as it is titled and registered. Please direct any questions, comments, or offers to trashman352@yahoo.com or through this site. Thank you. http://www.classiccarsltd.com/modules/auto/detail.php?id=635

If the SU's are new, why did you purchase a 48mm sidedraft?

That 48mm Webwe is Waaay to big for that little motor. Max ought to be about 40 mm with maybe some 34mm venturis in it. My gosh 48 mm is big enough for a motor twice that size.

That depends on the internals of the 48. I run one on my road race MGB with 1840 cc,
because, jetted right, it works better than the 45 I also have.

It can be made to run no doubt, BUT the 48mm dcoe will flow about 750 to 800 CFM which is ususlly plenty of air for a 350 c.i V-8 type motor, so not sure why a little 1840 ccB would pass that much air. AND yes I too have run a Weber on the B motor a nice 45 DCOE type but it runs just fine with good SUs too.

The dyno numbers were better on the 48 in the 5500-7400 range. BMC used the 48
extensively on their LeMans cars. But, some assert that the 45 is better on all but high
speed tracks like Road America. I will try both.

Does this little MG have the original weather Eqpt. with it..ie are the top and side curtains useable? How about the cockpit tonneau cover, is it also available? Yea I know these are not as impoetant as how it runs but they do determine how useable it might be as it stands. My last Midget had a 1340 cc motor and the 5 speed tranny, and the 3.9 axle ratio addition. It actually was a 70 mph hiway cruiser, and as long as there weren't any really long big hills, it would just "idle" down the road at about 3100 rpm at 70. That's a great conversion the 5 speed, but the 3.9 too was probably over the top.
