Im thinking about organizing a fun backroads drive from NC to PA for the NAMGBR convention in June 2018.

Any one interested? Who wants to help.

My plan is to drive old paved logging trails up to and then back down from the blue ridge parkway and sky line drive with intervals of faster moving roads like 81 or 11 to actually make progress toward our destination.

Fun slow stuff for an hour then higher speed stuff for an hour then a comfort stop then repeat. I scouted a few when driving to the AGM a few weeks ago.

I'm thinking 2 overnights one near Roanoke, VA one somewhere on the Potomac river maybe Harpers Ferry, WVA.

nothing firm yet just tossing out ideas for fun driving

If I come to Gettysburg, it'll be a 2 day sprint each way from South Florida.
About 550 miles each day!!
When I'm old(er) and retired, I'd love to do a slow trip...

We will practice this zippering in a walmart parking lot, Ricl Ingram. Then we will try it out on the Blue Ridge Parkway to avoid hitting wildlife.

sounded pretty neat till that nasty word "I 81" came out, I drive that alot in a full sized pickup truck, NOT my favorite those 18 wheeler's have no respect for anything from Fort Chiswell all the way to Winchester
when I need to go to Roanoke, I enjoy 29 to 220,

I am sure PJ would be flexible to a simple route change. So don't be so quick to discard the adventure of this drive. Nothing has been finalized as far as I know.

i understand the nasty I-81, thanks for the input

i was a student in Charlottesville VA from 1967-1973, and was able to learn most of the old state roads, many are just the way they were in the old days.

I expect to do some hotel inquiries next week, that will give us some options for planning the route and distance per day from the Blue ridge parkway to the sky line drive thru scenic Maryland back roads to PA.

Suggestions are most welcome!

we are having a lunch planning meeting Jan 12 at 1:00 pm at Hooters exit 36 I-77 Btw Charlotte, NC and Statesville NC..I want to include some of the crooked road in SW VA ( see photo) also some narrow roads up to and down from the parkway and ski
y line drive. These fun drives will add a couple of days travel. Lots of fun driving to be enjoyed.

So come one come all and shout out some preferences..... .... ........

So the floor is open to all route ideas, number of overnights going and coming,, fast days on main roads, or slow days
on the twisties, you are all most welcome to toss out the ideas.

Some may want to drop in at the MGA event in Richmond, VA the week before the NAMBGR Event in Gettysburg.

I have 3 cars so far. I am going to be talking to more people the middle of Feb. Just keep me in the loop. It's possible we may get to your starting point, or meet the caravan some where along the way.
