can someone tell me what this car is? Has antique plates on it. Waited around a few minutes hoping the owner would show up. I could not find any identifying marks on it.

Mini Moke. Brit military development. Featured in old '007' movie. Google it.

Take the time to understand what a part does and how it does it, then you'll have a better understanding of how to fix it when it goes wrong. Beats the scattergun approach every time.

Ignition testing made easy.

It only had a speedometer which I could not identify. I did notice that the engine through the grill was painted the same green you see on MG and A.H.

My mechanic pal had one we used to tear around the valley in (slower than a turtle stampede). Fun to drive, but could be scary if mingling with bigger traffic. Gave it to his kid as HS beater...to teach him a little humility...he used to say.
I think there is still one locally set up for autocross, but haven't seen it lately.

There's the original Moke and then the Moke replicas. An original moke is very hard to come by. whereas there are still plenty of replicas about and I suspect some have been adapted for grass track racing.

Friend of mine working for one of my midwest parts suppliers lucked out and bought the fleet used at the or one of the Catalina Island resorts in SoCal. He made out like a bandit despite their exposure to the salt air over the years. Mokes are indeed quite rare and collectable arguably the "first" dune buggies.

That particular Moke is a seashore car; I know the former owner. Always kept in Cape May as a run-around vehicle...
