Was driving around western NC and came across a 1974 Jensen Healey. New paint, new top, through the window the interior looks good.
Lotus engine, 4 speed.
No price, I don't know much more. No price, but I got the neat car feeling.

What should I know or should I run ?

Help!

"Now the problem you have is that when you have the unerring certainty of machinery, it is a machine. When something has foibles, it won’t handle properly, that gives it a particularly human quality because it makes mistakes. And that’s how you can build a relationship with a car that other people won’t get."

Always thought it to be a fairly unremarkable car considering it came from a name like Jensen who made such beauties as the CV8.
One overtook me yesterday on my way to Cambridge and they do look quite bland.

the early engines were big problems as Lotus didn't have the time or $ to properly develop the thing. Most of these were replaced under warranty (so they say) but if this one was not...beware.

If you get serious, there's a place in Phoenix, AZ that specializes in Jensen and a phone call to them could tell you how to tell by looking at the engine or the number.

Lack of 5 speed would reduce it's value considerably.

The cars value, from what I've seen. tends to be not far off that of a comparable B. Certainly nowhere near the value of a TR-series. Many ownser think they are worth a lot more than they really are. Peruse completed sales on ebay to get a feel for prices in your area.

They're actually pretty decent cars, but parts aren't quite so easy to get It's one of those British cars like the Rover 2000TC that was a solid car that never sold many here in the U.S. and so faded away quickly. The Lotus Elan made Lotus famous, of course, and one of their engines is in this car but turned at an angle to fit.

The engine when running well is a good one, and I've always like the looks although it's a bit boxier than an MGB. Depends on rust, state of tune, and other factors. Would take a little more care than an MGB to keep in top shape, but nothing like an old Jaguar, for example.

Despite their relative rarity here because they didn't sell many, they typically sell for under $5K, sometimes much less and only occasionally more when well maintained and with no problems. There's even a GT model with an interesting hatchback body style I've always liked but it's much rarer but only a little more expensive, typically. You'd have a very distinctive car that no one else would own.

Check out the "Jensen Healey Protection Society" website. They're the major club for the few remaining cars.
