NY Metro Drivers....planning ahead

Hi Guys & Gals,

Just sitting here watching F1 qualifying at Monaco and though I'd post about a fall drive. I know we just finished our spring drive but it's never too early to plan ahead.
I was thinking of doing an overnighter to the Saratoga Auto Museum taking route 9W most of the way in order to stay off the Thruway.
I found a motel, (Top Hill Motel) with 59-89 dollar rates and the dates I considered were either September 22nd-23rd (don't know for sure about this date...might have a wedding to go to) or October 13th-14th. There are no lawn events at the museum those dates.
If we get enough interest I'll plan it. If not, I'll set up a day drive.

Also, I you have another idea for an overnighter, post it.

See ya.............Bruno

Sounds good to me. Not too far from John Moore's. Maybe we can get him to join us for dinner this time if it doesn't rain. winking smiley

Guys,
Here's a ride I spoke about briefly at our dinner this past winter. Perhaps something to fall back on, or include as well.

2012 Fall Delaware River Drive (Bear Mountain Lodge)

Starting Point Yetter’s Diner 89 Route 206, Augusta, NJ (973-383-5641)

OD Readings
0 From the diner follow Route #206 North towards Milford
6 Gasorama gas is the last station before leaving NJ, continue on Route #206 through Stokes State Forest
7.5 Turn left onto Route # 560 West, Dingman’s Ferry Toll, follow Route #560 W and signs for Dingman’s Ferry Toll bridge. Cross over bridge and pay toll. $1.00 (cash only) No EZPASS
13 Turn right onto Route #209 North and follow road into Milford, PA
21.5 Turn right @ traffic light Route’s 209N/6E Follow road. After passing the green (396 mile marker) you will come up on a big open intersection with Interstate 84 high up on the left (not an I-84 intersection)
24.5 Turn left onto Cummins Hill Road (WATCH FOR AMIMALS) follow the road that turns into Bluestone and then Delaware Drive for 12 miles+
35.5 At the stop sign, turn right onto Route #6 West. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center is less than 2 miles down the road, clearly marked, with all it’s modern facilities. (Pit Stop!) From the Welcome Center, turn right onto Route’s 209N/6E towards Port Jervis, Check your gas guage! After crossing the Delaware river, bear left and go under the railroad tracks, (209/6) to the light. Turn left on Route’s #42/97, follow road to the split (split is approximately 3 miles up)
4.2 Stay left on Route #97 towards Mongaup. NOTE: The run on Route #97 is more than 18 miles long.
6.1 After Minisink Ford sign, slow down, at sign Roebling Bridge, turn left onto the bridge Immediately after the bridge, on your left is a parking lot with a comfort station. At this point we are less than 10 miles from destination. From the bridge road, turn right at the stop sign, follow the road around, right after the railroad bridge, there is a little shopping area. At stop sign, turn right onto Route #590. After bridge, turn right immediately onto Masthope/Big Bear sign. At stop light, turn right onto Karl Hope, Blvd., follow signs for main Lodge/Summit Restaurant.
After you pass the maintenance yard on your right, and you enter the circle, there is an entrance on your right between 2 stome pillars with signs saying “welcome to Masthope”. Enter parking area on the lawn in front of the lodge.

Going Home
There are two basic routes:

1. Go back down the hill and turn left and then left to the Roebling Bridge. Go over bridge and turn right onto Route # 97, This brings you back to Port Jervis, Follow Route # 6E (straight at light) to Route #23S which takes you into New Jersey over High Point. (Route 23S will eventually take you into the spaggetti junction in Wayne which will take you to Routes 46/3/80 and routes for NJ Turnpike and Parkways back into NYC or wherever your final destination may be.
