Designed to provide great MG driving roads, wonderful sightseeing and vacation opportunities plus plenty of MG fellowship while driving a route that circumnavigates the great state of North Carolina, the MG2012 NC Border Tour will begin outside the state’s capital of Raleigh in the Town of Rolesville. The rallye will officially begin on Monday, June 4th and travel to the Mt Airy area with an overnight stop right off of Interstate 77 in Dodson, the home of North Carolina’s largest winery – Shelton Vineyards. Tuesday the group will travel almost totally on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and spend the evening in historic Asheville. Wednesday the rallye will continue on the Parkway to its terminus in Cherokee and then head on to Murphy, the state’s westernmost city before turning back to the east to Dillard, Georgia, and MG2012.

When MG2012 wraps up on Sunday morning, the tour will begin again, this time heading to the very scenic Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area (think “Dirty Dancing”) for a wonderful sightseeing evening. Monday the group heads past the home of NASCAR outside Charlotte and on to United State’s golf capital, Pinehurst, with dinner among the Long Leafed Pines. Tuesday will dawn with the group heading to Wilmington and the Battleship USS North Carolina before driving up the Neuse Sound to an overnight stop in historic New Bern. Wednesday we’ll head through historic Washington and Bath (Black Beard) on our way to Manteo and the Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills (Wright Brothers) area on the Outer Banks. Some will stay on to take in the sites of the Outer Banks and some will begin their drive home while the diehards will continue on from the Atlantic to end the loop of North Carolina where we began in Raleigh/Rolesville.

In all, the Tour will cover almost 1600 miles over eleven days with three of the days spent at MG2012. A modest registration fee is planned that will get you a Rallye plate for your MG, hospitality parties each night on the route and wonderful MG memories. This event is open to all MG enthusiasts and all MG models. So if you wished you made the Rallye To Reno, make your plans today to join us on the MG2012 NC Border Tour.

Yes, you can join from anywhere along the tour stay a few hours, a few days, or do the whole ride. Register to get the signs, rally plate and all the route info and contact info. This will also provide us, the volunteer organizer, with your contact info to facilitate meeting up with you.
It's $30 but I can tell you it's a steal. Moss, Hendrix wire wheel and Classic MG magazine are subsidizing the costs so you'll get your $$ worth. If there are any funds remaining they will be donated to charity. Hope you can join in.

If I did join you, I would only be doing the leg from Murphy to Dillard. Will you be mailing the materials out before the start?

Up to date Information
will be emailed, a tour book will be available. we plan to distribute the tour books when you meet up with us. Postage would inflate the cost of the registration by another $5 bucks. You will have everyones mobile phone number and several participants will have CB radios for places in the mtns where cell phones are unreliable.

registered NC Border tour participants are getting a book like any rally; which will include everyones cell phone number etc. etc.,vinyl decals for the door[no adhesive] and a rally plate. this package costs more than the $30 we are charging to register, thanks go to Moss and Hendrix wire wheel and Classic MG magazine for subsidizing with generous advertising and sponsorship funding.

The cars will not be traveling in "tight formation" i.e.. we leave from the same point each morning and generally all gather someplace for lunch and then meet up again in the evening. So arrival in Murphy will be a span of one or two hours. Probably 2-4 cars in a group. slow cars, fast cars. those that like to stop a lot, those that don't. It all works out on a multi day tour/ rally. The book includes tons of sightseeing opportunities some people will stop for some others, will stop for different stuff. We are trying to put in a little bit of something for different tastes from golf to nascar, to tail of the dragon and stuff for ladies.
I will pm my cell phone number and email. Most participants will use cb radios as cell phones are problematic in the rural mountains. You may want to check in with us again early that morning while we are in Ashville, NC for a last minute update on our eta Murphy.

I dropped off at the Cherokees Scout , the Murphy paper, some info on the rally 3 weeks ago with your contact, info.

How many cars do you have signed up already?

Hey Guys,
I just moved to the Winston-Salem area, and will be getting my MGB shipped up here from Atlanta at the end of the month. I can't wait to get her running again, so that i can join up at these meets. Are there any pics out there from this journey? if so, please post.
