Changed My Lower Motor Mount

I changed my lower motor mount/torque arm today, and I'm pleased to say it
wasn't a bad job at all. It took about 2 hours start to finish
with very little foul language.
I had been getting a lot of engine movement when changing gears and it was
starting to take a toll on the exhaust flex pipe. I had a poly bush kit for the mount
which was going to go on the new car so I put it to use.
I won't go into the details of the job as it was pretty simple. It's basically a large
version of the metallastic bushings used on the BV8 front A-arms. Corroded bolts aren't
a problem as it is directly under the oil tube and the bolts are nice and slimy.
A little carb cleaner cleans everything up.
The difference is even better than I expected. The movement is much reduced and the car feels
much tighter. I might be kidding myself but the shifting seems better too.smileys with beer
All in all it was a successful afternoon project.
Sorry no pics, but like I said it was pretty straightforward.

Say, Does anyone have any idea if Moly lube is safe to save in the MGF's PG1 Gearbox?

Here's a link to Moto-Build racing's list showing the poly bush set for the mount

So let me get this straight....you're doing all this work on your car just so you can sell it to pay for another and then do all this work again?

Should be easier this time around, don'cha think? winking smiley

Regarding the moly-lube, I'd ask either a friendly Honda or Land Rover dealer.

I appologise Rich but I haven't found the time yet to put Redline gear oil into my car yet and given that I only have two weekends before we leave for England, it will have to wait until I return.

Ha Ha!
I want your new MGF to be in good shape Simon!
Unfortunately it had to be done as the soft mount was giving the flex pipe on the exhaust system a beating.
It sure was a worthwhile upgrade though.

Mark, no worries about the oil test. This is a long term thing.
You must be getting really excited about the trip!smiling bouncing smiley

We are SO looking forward to this trip, the break is much needed due to excessive hours spent at work over the past six months.

This past weekend we did a camping trip in the MGF. I can fit our Coleman cooler in the boot and a lot stuff under the bonnet with the spare tire removed. The only downside to the weekend was that it was over 30 degC both days, way too hot. We were exhausted from the heat by the time we got home yesterday evening.

I appreciate that, Rich. smiling smiley

Mark, RV8's have AC installed. Works quite nicely I must say, even with the top down. winking smiley

Simon, other have already made comments about a/c, although it sure would be nice to have at times (this weekend being one of those times).

He should not have to do much work the next time around!!!

At least I have got experience with the Charcoal F under my belt. Next time I will have a better idea of what to do and what to avoid.
I do have a big box of bits ready to go with more on the way.grinning smiley

I just sent in my entry and booked the hotel for the Western Washington All British Field Meet in Bellevue Wash. (Microsoft Land)on July 27th. Unless John drops by with a car we will have the only MGF there. Anita's reward is a visit to the Chihuly Glass Museum in Seattle on the Sunday. We might even stop at the Experience Music Project if they have a good exhibit on.

Rumour has it that the Bellevue ABFM may move to the lawn beside the Lemay Auto Museum in Tacoma. Would be a better location than the parking lot of the current site.

Attended the grand opening of the museum on 2 June with the RV8. Quite the place if anyone is in the area.

Rich, when is that fancy new car going to show up?

Apparently it leaves Japan on the 24th of June. Then I imagine 2-3 weeks for it to get here.
That will make it a bit of a rush to get the car inspected and ready for the Seattle show, but
I do have Andy as a back-up so no worries there.

I'm glad the turbo kit is WAY out of my price range, not waiting time lusting over it.
