A friend of mine bought the SV that I own from Hayes. He went on vacation so Hayes brought the car to SC and I accepted delivery. I liked the car so much I called my friend on vacation and said I am buying it, you will have the payment when you get home from your trip. The car went to my house, he never saw it for a couple weeks to make sure it was a done deal. So as a conselallation prize, he bought the ZS. The car is less than a mile from me. Dont feel too bad for my friend as he has a very nice collection of MG's and other British stuff so letting me buy the SV was not a problem. He has my 62 MGA 1600 MK2 Deluxe and another 62 MGA 1600 MK2 as part of the deal.

We also looked at the ZT wagon with the 4.6 but we are not shooting brake guys.

I used to cruise the streets of Hemel Hempstead and learned how to drive (UK style) on that big round-round about. When you drove my car was it still a SV then or had they done the conversion to SV-S? I know the conversion was done at Longbridge and not in Detroit.

Now that's another car that I would really like. I looked at the ad for the ZT-T and wished I could have it.
I thought the price on that car was quite good.
So you gave up a Deluxe and a Mk 2? You really wanted that SV-S!eye popping smiley
I only gave up a ZA Magnette to get my MGF...well, a TR7 too but that doesn't count!

Ron, I now have a better respect for the SV, seeing what you gave up to buy it. I, like you and Rich, gave up car(s) to get the car I wanted. I parted with my MGBGT after 12 years of ownership, a car I never thought I'd sell. I would have gladly sold the Spitfire instead but my wife has become very attached to it. I'd rather she continue to enjoy and sharing in the fun of owning and driving an lbc and give up my GT for the F.

Hayes stil has the ZT-T. I drove it last year.

Since I bought the SV those two MGA's have appreciated quite a bit. I bought the SV in 07 and realized then that it would not appreciate in value for a while. I think they have turned the corner and are creeping up. The reasoning or excuse I used to call it an investment was: very few made (@82), the only one is US and probably will be for a few more years, and its 1 of the only 4 cars that were supercharged. That was the icing on the cake.

I had no idea MGA's would jump up in value as fast as they have, my buddy got a good deal.
When I go out and crank it up and listen to the exhaust those MGA's melt away. When I put it away for the winter the MGA's come back. Told you it was bittersweet.

I am happy with my decision and have been offered more than I paid for it. Like any good MG it has loads of fun value you can not put a price on. Still a car I can put miles on each year and not loose on my investment (I hope). Can't ask for much better than that.

Looks like you got a pretty good deal to get your MGF. I am sure you are happy with it. A friend in NC got the lhd TF 160 Hayes had for a while and he loves it.

I am old school, buy high and sell low. Never been disappointed yet.grinning smiley

I have a MGC roadster I bought in 1982 and put over 200,000 miles on it. Not for sale. Some cars become part of the family and some are just consumables.

Ron,

Your SV was at Wirewheel when I drove it, cracked windscreen and all. It was 2007 when I looked at it but the price was too rich for my blood!

I really thought I had a good chance of getting one of the LHD SV's as I attended the Sports and Racing Auction in Longbridge in 2006. I put in an
agressive bid on chassis 604(or 624 can't remember for sure) which was an unfinished car. Only to find out that PWC decided to sell the whole block of unfinished cars as one group to Oakfields. Shady business in my mind but that is not uncommon with auctioneers and receivers!! The auction was sad but exciting as I was probably the only one from North America judging by the accents there!!! So many other cars went for cheap but at that point I was focused on getting an SV and they didn't advise until near the end that the individual cars were sold privately to one party. Bastards!!!!

There was a huge amount of Xpower kit there for MGF's and ZS,ZR etc, some stuff that was one off and not available to the public. If Rich was there he would have been so excited we probably would have had to take him out on a stretchereye popping smiley

We were not allowed to take pictures (although some people did) but I did get some pictures outside and when I find them I will post some up.

I returned to Longbridge this past November and it was quite a sad looking place(from an enthusiasts view). I guess similar to what people would have seen happen in Abingdon in the 1980's!!

This is getting depressing so I must sign off...............................smileys with beer

As much as I like that ZT-T it would never make it across the border. By the time they are legal to import
I hope to be retired (and broke!) so I will likely just have to be happy with my MGF, although I am really tempted to bring one in from Japan. You never know, if someone offers me the right amount for my current F it may set wheels in motion! It's good to hear that someone else follows the "Buy high, sell low" practice. I usually buy high, put tons of money into cars, then get bored and sell in order to move on to my next project-C'est la vie!

There's a ZT-T in the States, I saw it at either Twist's Summer party a few years at, at Bronte, or Battle of the Brits in MI. It had a "chromatic" paint finish on it.

That is the car we know, WireWheel sold it to the guy who owns triple C vending and then bought it back about a year later, guess the honeymoon was over sooner than expected.

Ah yes, Triple C, that was it. I didn't realise WireWheel was a classic car dealer.

That ZT-T a nice looking car. I find the styling of UK and European cars is so much better than Japanese cars, they have the certain, as the French would say, "I do not know what".

We have a '03 Corolla that we have had since new. It is drop-dead reliable. We have done nothing to it except normal wear items. but it is the most BORING car to drive, it kills your soul. We also have a 02 Golf (I have owned VWs since I was 22) which is not quite as reliable but it is so much more enjoyable drive. The interior's layout is better. I get that same feeling when I look at the pictures of the ZT-T. Here in Chemical Valley, BMWs are like a... butts, everyone has got one, and I can see why, they are an enjoyable car to drive. I'll bet the SV is an enjoyable car to drive.

Hey, I'm beginning to dream again!

I'd go even farther and say that the SV is an Exciting car to drive. The sound, the acceleration, no doubt the feel.

You could go buy a Mustang and put MG badges on it - no one at the ABFM will ever know.....devil smiley

I wouldn't throw an SV-R out of my garage for leaking oil. But then at the prices they want (not to mention sneaking one into the country) I can't see it being an issue.

I never liked the Rover 75 and sticking an MG badge on the front does nothing to enhance it's appeal to me, so I'd pass on the ZT

Wire Wheel deals mostly in race and speciality cars but has a few classics roll through.

Rich
Yes it is fun to drive, love to slowely leave a stop light (let em get ahead of me) then just sort of disappear. I get lots of lookers, nobody knows what it is. Gotta be careful so I dont get any speeding tickets. Insurance for 6 cars is bad enough when you only have 3 drivers and one is under 25. In SC cars are also taxed as personal property so a double whammy. Still, life is good as long as you are on the green side of the grass.

Darren,
Thanks for checking in! You are a lucky guy to have that car. It's very special....and I am very envious!
It must go like a rocket!
From what I understand it came very close to going into production before BMW put the kibosh on the project.sad smiley

Cheers,
Rich
