Interesting item at Chris Hollum's

This past Saturday I was driving from Fredericton, NB back to Sarnia, ON, and made my normal 8 hrs into the drive stop at Chris Hollum's shop. I've been buying from Chris for 13 years now and have been dropping in on him for the past 10 years or so every time I am in Montreal.

Anyway, on this visit I wanted to see if he would import a muffler system and a Newton carpet kit for my F. He brings a container of parts in a couple times a year and so the shipping cost would be lower for me. So no problem on the carpet since he deals exclusively with Richard Newton on interior bits and he would look into the muffler request as well.

Chris was quite interested in the F and what I thought about it. He mentioned that there are some front suspension bushing for a Mini that are the same as the rear suspension bushings for a F, interesting. I'm going to look into this further.

As I was walking out the door, 4 hours after I arrived, there on a shelf was a gallon container of Unipart Hydrolastic Suspension Fluid.

Hey, I resemble that comment.

No, the jug of fluid is still sitting there, although I know where to find some if I need it. I also found out that Steve, who works with Chris, has one of the British Leyland hydrolastic servicing units at home.

I did buy one of the last panels I need to complete the restoration of my Spitfire Mk3, as well as a NOS tonneau for the Mk3; still in the original STANPART bag. I have been there before and filled the car with parts.

I couldn't believe that I was there for that long, the time just few by.

I visited Chris's shop about 8 yrs ago when I went for up on business(also the F1 was on ,so a good excuse!).

Interesting guy, and I would of never heard of him if it wasn't for a friend from Mtl who dealt with him for years!

Mark, I assume you did not take the F based on your recent posting regarding of the HG issue??

It's funny, the first parts place I knew about was Octagon Motors in Vancouver from the ads in Autotrader. The second was Chris and that was from the ekeletic British car mechanic near CFB Gagetown. I really knew nothing about MGBs before jumping in.

I was back home getting a car from my parents. They've decided that they no longer wanted two cars and so I flew home and drove a car back, gave me the perfect excuse to stop by Chris'.

I bought a rust free California sourced MGTD chassis from Octagon in 1987. It cost me $250 to send it by rail clear across the country from Vancouver to St. John's. Try getting one shipped for that price now!!!
