Hi everyone
Can anyone help and tell me what would cause the carbs to spit back
I have checked the timing, and all the electrics the carbs seem to be getting fuel alright
It is very hard to start when cold but when it does start it sounds and runs great
This only seems to have happened after I rebuilt the top half of the engine
HELP !!!!!!!!!!

Take it that you've rebuilt the carbs, new jets etc? Agree that it could be too lean. Workshop manual from SU is pretty good detail on how to get this right. If ypu have trouble starting from cold presumably with choke out settings/balancing seems the issue,

Also worth checking for other causes of a lean condition, i.e. air leaks, such as:
-any gaskets missing on carbs (both sides of plastic insulator)
-any bolts loose in the path from head to carb body
-servo or servo vacuum line leaks
-leak from distributor vacuum advance pipe (though this is v. unlikely to cause backfire)

Brake vacuum line leak also.

Too lean was my thought, causing slow fuel burn and backfire.

Thanks Guys
The front carb was running a bit lean,
roaring like a lion again and driving a dream,
just need to align the lights and give it a good clean .
