There's an MGC-GT in this Sunday's Barrett-Jackson auction (live coverage on Speed), lot # 618.2

Recent restoration with new red paint, paint prep only fair. Black interior with red piping, knock-off alloys, new radials. Mostly correct, some fit and finish could be better.

Seller was a longtime MG racer and engine builder, didn't get his name, and had hoped for more. Prices generally were soft.

Hammer price was $15k which seemed pretty generous for the overall condition.

So the buyer paid $16,500 (hammer + 10%) and the seller nets just over $13,000 (hammer less 8% less listing fee).

And BJ nets a cool $3.5k.
I'm in the wrong business.

That would be me, the proud new owner!
This is the first MG to my collection and hope to learn plenty from you all here. Minor tweaks to be done in order to bring the car up to my standards but overall a kick-ass fun car to drive. I had placed a post earlier if someone had a creditable restoration person for this vehicle in OC or LA county...not much luck.

Cheers,
David

Hi David,
Congrats on the purchase and glad you quickly found this forum.

When I spoke to the seller in the staging lanes, he was quite knowledgeable about MG engines and he may be of help to you, as will other MGC and MGB owners.

Hey Mike, thanks...looking forward to this fun car/new project.
I was looking for the seller at show and for some reason I missed him up there. Then again the cold beer made it hard for me to leave my seat at times.
If there is any way I can get a hold of this person, please let me know. I'm not to sure what the confidentiality is with sellers to buyers but any info would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
David

David,
The consignor's contact info should arrive along with the car's paperwork from B-J, if not, just ask them. I'm pretty sure this fellow is an ex-SCCA racer, and he spoke like he did the restoration himself.

Enjoy your new car and the camaraderie of this site.

BTW, there is always a good representation of British cars each early Saturday morning at Cars & Coffee. No MG's last week, but lots of TR's a Mini and a few Healeys.

Sounds great Mike, thanks! I was thinking about stopping by Cars and Coffee to enjoy and network for sure.

Congrats. I've had my 69 CGT for about 27 years. Fun car..but so are the A's and B's hanging around my shop.
