Inlet manifold drains

The two drain lines in the middle and rear of the inlet manifold have been plugged by the PO, my question is whether it is worth re-instating the drains or does it cause problems with fuel/air mixture?

Is there any info on what size the lines should be, threads etc.

What are your thoughts ?

Hi Peter
I would keep them blocked off, who would think of introducing air leaks on a manifold?? Only BMC.
I ran my C for 7 years with them blocked off, with no problems. This winter I changed to a three carb set up, fantastic.

Cheers Bill, that was the reply I was hoping for.

I have been running with them plugged for some years with

no noticable problems, so best leave 'em.

Realy envy your triple setup, what manifolds are you using?

Anyhow thanks for your input.

Pete.

Pete,

Bill Murray is exactly right. Get a set of manifolds and the additional SU and most of the MGC deadness will dissapear as if by magic, also source a set of (Downton copy) exhaust headers and build the dual exhaust system.
This transforms the dull and dead, little torque and power into the engine as it should have been built.
The factory inlet manifold simply starves # 1 & 6 cylinders which is why it didn't go as a 3 litre engine should.

Head work is very beneficial but the manifolding is the key. Economy should improve. Use ST needles and try C1W needles when you have it sorted out. Downton supplied C1W needles with their Kit 45.

Good Luck,
Bruce.

Bruce,

Great advice, your right with what you say and I think thats the way most of us are working towards, just takes time to build up the funds.
Engine worked, including head worked, thanks to Steve Curtis, exhaust headers added later, now saving for the inlets and extra carb.

Hopfully it wont be too long!

Cheers Pete.
