A few months ago I started a thread to elicit people's thoughts on what wheels to choose for my MGC and your many comments were much appreciated. Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new set of MWS wheels and so far.....a double WOW...!!!!! First "Wow" was how fast our Mr Kirk was able to accept the order and get them to our door....about a week, simply amazing. Second "Wow"....the wheels themselves....they are stunning in appearance. Beautiful deep chrome, well done machine work and very well packaged to protect them. So it is off to see my buddy Tony Shoviak to use his guy to get my tires mounted and get them on the car. Many thanks once again Bob for your patience and help......

Drew,

Simply stunning, are they 5" or 5 1/2" or 6" wide? What have you decided for tire size & brand?
I am making do right now with painted 5" wires but will be needing tires in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks, Bill.

Hi Bill...

I went with 15 x 5.5 so as to open up my possibilities tire size wise down the road. Right now I have a set of 165HR15 tires with only 500 miles on them that are going to be put on. Since that picture was taken I have cleaned the protective oil like film off one and it was even nicer....I am a very satisfied customer so far...!!!!

Tires are branded "Widetracker" and according to my tire shop they were actually made by Bridgestone. I was over at Tony Shoviak's and he has a set on his A too....

Drew,

Thanks, I would go with 5.5" also if going with new - more tire choices.
I am looking at 185 x 65 x 15 tires to go with my 5" wheels.
Been quoted Kelly starfire, Cooper lifeliner or Goodyear Integrity at about $115 - $125 a tire installed (including tubes).
Wondering if anyone has experience with any of these brands?

Bill.

Picked up two sets last week a 14" set and 15" they do look good and with SS spokes as well will be a lot easier to maintain.

They look great! My only question is whether or not they can be balanced by many of the "local" tire shops. Looked at the MWS web site and they show how to do it but it is not clear to me that anyone other than a specialty shop has the proper equipment. I understand that the Dayton hubs are machined to allow balancing at most tire shops with current equipment.

Tony Shoviak has a guy over in Toledo who has done his wire wheels and who I will be using to mount and balance these. I will also be taking the MWS data with me "just in case"...!!!!

You might find information about the MWS's wheels in the attached thread:

My reference to balancing is in message #9.

I have no doubt they are better than the Indian produced Dunlop 72 spoke 15 x 5''s, they are ok and what I got back in 2000, but they do carry a bit of lead to have them balanced, enjoy the MWS's

Thanks Drew - I'll do some research locally - It might be a lot easier just going with a new set for all the time taken to re-spoke them. Time is at a premium lately..... I thought as one reaches retirement 'things' were supposed to back off!!
Cheers

Retirement is the time when you wonder how you ever had time to go to work.

Larry.... five years into retirement and your words are oh so true (of course I complicated it last year by going back on contract to the company I retired from and am still there.....at least it supports my MG habit).

Stan..... I didn't want to discourage attempts at repairing wire wheels but from what I have seen and heard, the best solution is indeed to replace with new. Pretty sure Captain Kirk has a set with your name on them... smiling smiley

Drew,
Got the guys lined up for lunch. Have you talked to Whitehouse Motors yet? As far as retirement goes I retired 5 years ago but with my girls being 11 and 12 I do a lot of driving around getting then to their after school stuff. At least my youngest is willing to ride in the back of the C-GT so I do get some MG time cool smiley

Appointment made at Whitehouse Motors in Whitehouse, Ohio for tire mounting and balancing week after next. Talked to Bud....great guy with a business that has been around for 69 years. As soon as I mentioned Tony's name I was in like Flint..... smiling smiley
