I don't have a liner in my hoodconfused smiley

The one I had in my 74 B-GT fell out after about 10 years of driving.

Thanks Dana...it really is a moot issue. I made the statement from subjective observations of combing over junk yards since I was about 13. It was pretty easy to spot the cars with engine fires and without the hood insulation.

I never claimed to be an auto engineer, just a half baked shade tree mechanic and a pretty knowledgeable parts person. No dog in the fight about purpose or best purpose, just trying to sort some anomalies about the part itself.

Photo from a purportedly unrestored car. I didn't take the photo and have no more info about the car...

Rather persuasive albeit contrary to several minds. Tends to confirm the other pic and parts book. Any idea what the vin might be or the year?

Thanks for the post!!

Not really, but in another photo I have of it I see it has side reflectors, so it's a '69.

Looks like somebody bought some stock and cut it to fit.

Possibly, but it strikes me as somewhat unlikely someone would go to the trouble.

I looked at the underside of my bonnet. The liner is long gone, but by the pattern of the glue residue it's plausible it had a two-piece liner.

Ah -- I guess it does look a little bluish in the photo. It's actually BRG. You can use the nav links on the left side of the page to read about the three cars. The info is a little out of date, but not much has changed lately on the C. :-(

Rob,
You are right, it is a '69. I have many photos of this car sent to me years ago.

The plot indeed thickens.

Assumptions aside this is clear evidence "some" cars were indeed fitted with the 2 part liner and long past the presumed consumption of the early reinforced bonnets...

Provenance counts! Thanks Dana and Rob. This will be put in my "Ahh but wait" file as documentation that the two part is original in 1969 and it certainly give credence to the first book documented pic submitted by Tony S. which shows the same two part used in early 1968. I wish I could share it but it is too large a PDF for this site. Anybody got any idea how to put a 4 giggigaggle on a diet down to 2 ?

Google "convert pdf to jpg free" for a number of options for conversion to jpg. That is step 1. Step 2 is to use your picture editor and resize the jpg image file to what you want. The other option is to send it to me using "www.transferbigfiles.com" and I will do it and send it back to you.

If you look at Dana's picture closely, you can see that there are two different types of material overlapped to cover the under side of the hood. The top piece has a very noticeable textured finish, and the bottom piece has a smooth flat finish. This is for sure a cobbled patch job, not a factory install.

I sorta felt the same way, but it looks different in other photos. Just odd that it is two piece, and Robert has
factory data backing it up. Not sure, definatly a maybe. But positvely a perhaps!confused smiley

If it is a replacement, why would someone replace only half -- unless it was already two pieces?

confused smiley So much for my posting talents....needs to be 3 times as big but you can still see there is no mistaking its a two part liner and no visable cross brace...

Interesting and perhaps just a coincidence, neither of the documented OEMs with a two part iner, one an early 1968, the other a 1969, are NA spec.
