I like Lemon Pledge on my desktop and a Hooter's girl on my laptop. Just old fashoined I guess.

That pretty much describes me too these days - I still use Linux for servers, but my main "desktop" is an iBook with OS X. Some of the modern desktop distros such as Ubuntu and OpenSuse are pretty impressive though.

I wonder how many MG folks run a lot of free software? It seems to me that both are sort of quirky and appeal to those who like to tinker...

That's funny. That's exactly why I stopped using linux on the desktop. I like to tinker - but with my own stuff and my only when I choose to.
