In reply to # 2146586 by gooser hap, i think they can find an answer but you are respected around here. if you suggest something it's probably also seen as a recommendation which is what they really want.

People can call me and ask me anything they want about engine, carbs, wheels, or anything I work on, or with, and I'm overly glad to help them. Figuire besides here, I tend to a average of 50-100 phone calls and emails a week on this sort of stuff, I'm a happy to help. Ok with that being said, the above mentions have little to nothing with what I do. I had a guy recently stopping by my shop bugging me about the value of his MGB, this is not what I do. A website is a both a blessing, and a curse, with the new Google tags system, and the "speed shop" in my business name, now I get V8 hot rod guys calling me all the time, I'm nice, but quickly get rid of them, but still try to head them in the right direction, but a 30 second view of my website would easily have told them, I not the guy to call on a SBC, so back to my point of people being lazy.

Not that hot, or that humid here, and not mad, but after getting ask literally thousands of silly questions non relating to my work, it sort of rates as a semi-rant. Who know maybe today some knuckle will call me and ask me what wax to use, or vinyl protective product, and you know, I would probably give them a answer, then hang up and think, seriously dude smiling smiley

Hap, I'd rather get a silly phone call than get called out to someones house or building, spend and
hour or two figuring out their serious water intrusion problem, and then have them hire a 15/hr
guy to try and fix it.OK, that's my little rant. Then again, I don't get 50 - 100 phone calls either!winking smiley

I get a little taste of that - people find out I do electrical and lighting design, next thing I get is the next door neighbor calling to see if my lights are dim. No, are yours. Yes, they seem to get that way each evening. IT'S CALLED SUNSET, YOU IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like we 'outsource' nearly everything these days. Why not intelligence? Seriously, we've become a nation of buyers, no longer builders. So it seems entirely consistent for people who would rather have someone else build something for them and buy it rather than do the thinking themselves to be too damn lazy to even look for their own answers.

How about the call I got, "You do bodywork?" I felt like saying, no I'm a dentist, they just put my number in the wrong place. "I'm changing floors in a Jeep Wrangler and the torx bolts are stripped out" "What can I do?" This in the midst of me changing motor mounts on a RB MGB with rusty bolts. I'll spare the details on my job but it did end up having a sawzall involved and a lot of swearing. So, I was polite and offered some sugestions but warned that most could possibly set fire to the Jeep. Thinking about it that may have been a good thing. Anyway, I finally said...I don't know exactly what to tell you. You have to use your imagination.

So Hap, I completely understand.

Jim I had fun today putting HD mounts in my son's 78B. The first time I put them in they were up side down the studs (not in any manuals, internet posts, etc told you which way)at the bottom of the mount. The second time its much easier after a little practice,WRONG.

I feel your frustration..........I had a British repair shop for many years. People would call me up while I was trying to make a living and request free information all the time. I especially liked the guy that bought his parts some place else and ask me how to install them! So I started asking people: "What do I win if I get the question right? This is a contest right? You wouldn't call and interupt me while I was working, to pick my brain for free would you? This is my livelyhood"........click
So I got a teaching job........Students know that RTFB means read the F#$%ing book! But my favorite all time question: "How many keys fit Fords?" so I told him "6 million 387 thousand and 215 unless you calculate the possible electronic combination of security keys. Why do you ask?"

Stupid people should not breed! or attempt to fix cars but some how the guidance counselors seem to think that Auto is the place for the thugs, illiterants, immigrants that don't speak English and learning disabled. Sorry I get carried away.....school starts tomorrow.........give me a stack of those drop cards

Not sure I get your drift, but Bob White ended up with the car, kinda a unusual story how he ended up with that car, but no, if you or anyone else is a potential buyer on Kipper form Bob, feel free to call, me and I will tell you everything I know about the car, and what I have done to it mechaniclly, and Bob has further it even more with some odds and ends that the chassis needed. It should damn near be the ulitmate GT at this point. That is a subject that near and dear to my heart, and I would be glad to talk to anyone about Kipper at anytime, so if that you Drake, call me, I'll tell probably more than you want to hear smiling smiley
