Question about England and their curfews

A couple weeks ago they were talking during a match at Wimbledon about suspending the match because it was getting too late to finish it. Last night, they pulled the plug on Springsteen when he was joined at the end of the concert by Sir Paul McCartney, in the middle of a song. report said it was about 10:30.

The Springstein/McCartney thing was due to noise regulations. Other than that, no curfew that I know of.

Er, what's the question..? As Jay says, when you apply to host an event such as a concert that is likely to disturb others living nearby, there is an agreed time by which the noise should be shut off so as not to be a nuisance. You have to remember that in this country we tend to live on top of one another, and so courteous measures such as that are a necessity.

I think most country's in Europe have some sort off noise curfew.Usually about midnight.

Still not a bad idea to pull the plug on McCartney.Have you heard him Shouting on stage live lately!

He should call it a day doing live gigs.

I think you are confusing "curfew" with noise regulations. Tell me the cops won't come around and tell you to turn your music down at various times from 10:00pm to midnight in populated areas.

There will always be someone who complains.

There will always be someone who complains.

Like people that buy houses on the flight path from an airport,or next to a race track. Then complain about the Noise.

Indeed.

We had an outdoor concert here with Frank Zappa headlining (yes, before he died) and the promoters were so concerned about noise complaints they offered people in neighbouring apartment blocks free movie tickets so they could go out and not sit at home hearing the music (and complaining) - very few concerts were put on at this cricket ground right in the city.

Zappa opened his show by saying hello to the neighbours. He told us about the movie tickets which were offered on his suggestion, and how few people took up the offer. He said he expected there to be noise complaints because there were "always going to be people who complained" even if it was just a rare event and thousands of people were enjoying themselves. I am sure those people heard him say that.

Yes, there were complaints - and yes, they were from people who did not take up the offer of free movie tickets.

Yeah, beling to a race track that was closed doen because one person constantly complained to the County, that "if she stood on a certain hill on her proerty she could hear us. Our noise level at our boundry had been measured below the required limit with 30 cars on the track at the time.

1/ Houses are not near an airport (well they are, but have to put up with that 18/7/365 anyway), they are near a nice leafy and pleasant public park. Not designed or planned to have a bloody awful racket going on til all hours.
2/ Because of that, concerts ( sic) have to apply for a permit - in this case up to 10.30pm.
3/The time was exceeded. I believe the participants were warned, and after 10 mins grace the power was shut off. Pretty reasonable IMHO.
4/ Come on, Springsteen and McCartney may be legends. But have you actually heard them trying to "sing" lately.? McCartney was an embarrassment in the Jubilee concert, along with many other silly old fools who should have retired 20 years ago. Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Cliff Richard.etc
5/ I still love to listen to their recordings - well not all of them !( they never age).. but live.. Oh dear.

I blame the Old People of today. Back in my day, old people were respectful. Now these days they have absolutely no manners and couldn't care less about anyone but themselves. Springsteen and McCartney are perfect examples of this. All ME ME ME and no consideration for others.

Nice one Steve.. like it.

By the way.. Wimbledon situation.
For our USA cousins. Wimbledon is in a very built up area, amongst private houses with hardly any public car parking. Its not a purpose built stadium in the middle of nowhere. No good complaining, that's just the way it is. Its been there over 100yrs, and long may it stay that way.
Therefore 15000 people who miss the last trains and buses from this leafy suburb ( around 2330 ) have no way of getting home. There is no police curfew or any other hidden meaning to a max. 2300 finish.

Thanks for clearing that up, I had the Murray-Baghdatis Wimledon match on in the background, If I had a nickel for every time the commentators mentioned the "unprecedented late night match" and whether the stands would empty before the match was over, I'd have had a whole BUNCH og nickels.
Just seemed strange it would be mentioned over here quite a bit in the last 2 weeks, that is why I asked. thanks

Springsteen still doesn't seem to get it... no surprise, he's part of the "ME" generation. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18868086
