My co worker and friend Carmen

A truly nice man,he bored me with the same stories he told at lunch over and over, but i listened anyway. He never had a bad word for anybody. One day we were doing some repair work on the ship,he cut a plate for me to weld and it was wrong,he cut it again it was to big,cut it again the wrong angel, cut it once more now it had a huge gap. I started yelling at him i was mad in a bad mood,i threw it in the water. He laughed and i knew it was his way of getting me to get over being pissed about something. He was simply a nice man who worked hard all his life. He got diagnosed with some cancer after my wife did. His did not seem so bad,we were all hopeful for him. He was 62 and decided to retire, he use to call my wife up on the phone and ask for me as a excuse but really i think to talk to her about what she was going through. He went from not so bad to bad to worse. His wife told me he had hospice care at home and he passed away the other day.He never got to enjoy his retirement. I told my wife today about him,she did'nt say much,i guess there isnt much to say. But sometimes i feel life isnt fair and as i sit here alone at midnight its hard to shed a tear for him. I'll remember him for what he was,a good man. He was a big guy with these huge hands and he was like a ox even when he was older, but yet he was gentle and kind. When i was at work and i got the call my father was close to death all my emotions came up to the surface about the hard feeling between us and how it would never be fixed. It was at lunch time and i got angry and then i could not control my emotions for a few minutes,i at first felt embarraesed in front of carmine but it was his kindness in that moment that put me at ease. Rest in piece my friend

Steve, life isn't always what you think it should be. You are a good man. I lost my dad to cancer over 8 years ago and know the hardships people go through. I'd like to wish you and your wife all the best.

Steve, I am sorry for your loss. Some people come into your life and leave an big impression like that, and it's hard to see them go. I moved to Greenville from Columbia in 1971 at age 27. Moved in next door to a guy from St Louis, and we became fast friends - every weekend we do things around our houses together. When the Arab oil embargo drove up heating oil prices, we rented an insulation blower and put a ton of insulation in our attic, then put roll batts under the floors together. Worked on cars together - my MGs, his Mustangs. Ten years later he became hoarse and after many tests it was found he had advanced lung cancer. Several years later, his wife went the same way. That's when I quit smoking at age 50. When he was sick, I began to realize, he was more like a brother to me than my own brother. It was really hard to see him go.

Steve, so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and co-worker. Reading this comes at a particularly bad time for me too. I have a friend of thirty years in the last stages of cancer and just learned Tuesday that my son's father-in-law has been diagnosed with bone cancer. He is starting treatment today. Tough times ahead.

Sorry to hear about your friend Steve.
Sometimes people who lead very quiet and unassuming lives leave the biggest mark on other people.
We're all better for knowing them.
I hope your wife is doing better, Jim

Steve,
Those emotions shown are a true stamp of who you are and Carmen would have approved.

Thanks Andrew and to all. Im no saint never was and never will be and i dont deserve some of the nice things you guys said and to be honest thats not why i posted. It just gets me so down that this guy never got to enjoy retirement, his family. My wife goes for her next cat scan next week and its also been on my mind. On another note and i just want to change the subject i went to the stripper's today (not that kind but now that i think of it maybe tieing a load on and wasteing a bunch of dollar bills aint a bad idea)anyway the car looked good. Its amazing to see whats roted whats not and it does make the panel repalcement seem easier now that you see everything. The guy i used is super delicate and he chemically striped the car first. He had me strip the doors and hood myself to save some money and now he will blast them all over. Car goes to the body guy tomorrow and it takes me away from everything on my mind. I'll keep you informed
