We took the 71 GT on a run yesterday and saw some cool cars.

Here's the slideshow

The mystery car. Make and model please as I think the make alone will be too easy. If you can guess the approximate year give yourself some brownie points.

It's a UK car, Ken. Not an import.

I would have guessed about a 57 Hillman, but Richard sounded pretty certain...

Richard nailed it. I've only seen one before and that was in a scrapyard. I tried to buy it but they wouldn't sell. Maybe just as well as it was pretty far gone.

For a bonus point, there is a connection between the A40 of that period and the MGB. Anybody want to hazard a guess?

Not sure of the facts in detail. But I seem to remember after Morris merged with Austin, Austin derived engines were used in many BMC cars, eg Morris 1000 ? .. presumably into MGA which morphed into MGB.

JackMG... it does look a bit like the Hillman ( Minx) Californian of same era. But as far as I know Rootes did not make a convertible version of that.

An acquaintence in high school back in the late 50s had a Hillman Minx convertible (funny, I remember the car's name, but not his smiling smiley ). The grill was more rectangular and the rear of the car less rounded, but very similar to what was in my memory.

Time to give them jelly beans a break Jack. Besides the shipping problem, there simply isn't a market for em, ie; used rainbows, new maybe. However, if'in I did decide to buy one, do you guarantee tha colors won't be faded? Did ya see if'in maybe Greyhound might ship em? Do they come w/ directions?

This isn't jelly bean abuse and I'll tells ya why. It happened during my third abduction when I was selected by the aliens to be the Dixie sleeper cell leader and had to go to alien college for training. I had a chip implanted for when the Rapture happens. Anyways, I worked part time going to college selling rainbows and I took tradeins. I was famous then because I was known as a man of color. I have brought this concept to reality and can ship condensed used rainbows, package includes a bit of water and some compressed air. I can not insure colors or clairity because they are used and have been seen before. I sold one already, to a yankee, but he claimed I was a liar and false person, after I explained to him that it doesn't work after dark he realized his mistake and has one on back order as I type.

Richard, you're close. The A40s had the early version of the B series engine at 1200cc, enlarged over time to the 1800cc as used in the B.

Jack, tou'll be thinking of one of these on this page.

Doesn't seem as these would be visible much longer than the smell of a fart in a 90 MPH wind gust. Just curious, how much ya charge fer um... + shippin acourse? Obviously no refunds huh.

How dare you to compare my fine product to a fart in the wind. Even though they don't last longer than a fart in the wind you didn't have to say it out loud. This has been a common complaint but let me remind you they are used, if you want duration you'll have to buy a new one....which I have available with assembly instructions including Wyatt's rain dance video. The cost is four pates, That is high but it includes shipping but not packaging as that is subcontracted out. I have standard available now and soon will have wobblers that shimmy...this effect is enhanced by XXX gunpowder and I'm working on a glowing one for night time enjoyment, so far it works but I'm only getting black for a color....I'll keep you posted and send you a catalog when they get printed up.

Good eye! I picked out the "Flying A" hood ornament but was clueless as to which model of Austin.

Jack, has this venture been cleared through the Dept. of the Interior? Ya might run afoul of FEDERAL LAW. Not sure these rainbows yer sellin would qualify as a nateral resource, bein used an all, but tha newun's might be a diff'ernt thang all ta gether. Ya kno how danged stupid some guvermant rules & regulations are. Sorry bout tha fart in tha wind comment...nuthin personal. "wobblers that shimmy", "pates" ya lost me now, can ya explain this a little more in detail? Not mean in for ya ta invoke any trade secrets if'in thats what it is. How long for tha catalogs will be finished? Will it include illistratons?

I am cleared by the governmnt as long as they are not being used for immoral perpatudes. I've only sold using pate as the standard, it's the only interrestial value unit I know. A pate would equal to 12 roosters and 78 hens to you. The catalog has been delayed several times because of new product development such as the invisable rainbow that works perfectly if you don't see it....also the camo rainbow that blends in and has worked during every test, also the new and improved salt water rainbows that give oft brighter colors than fresh waterers, all test on the coast of Tennessee have been great. I can't say for sure when the catalog will print up. I'm taking prepreorders now and can finance...might need a partner soon that knows how to develop an electric rainbow. Haven't found the pot of gold but the leprechon gave me some purple jelly beans....it's a gooder world....beautiful and all like that.

Jack, good ta hear ya not runnin afoul of goverment regs. A partnership sounds interestin. Keep me up ta date on developments w/ tha saltwater rainbows up yonder on tha Tennasee coast? What a brillyunt idea w/ tha mountain views an all. Vivid colors are definately gonna be a plus. Tha price is right too, an ifin ya got chikin on tha menu at yer new resterant ya gonna be a rich man Jack. Slack off tha j-beans tho, camo rainbows!!! We can always include disclaimers w/tha invisible ones to avoid possible lawsuits. How doe's tha electric ones work, I'm thinkin a 220 V. extension cord an a glass a water, should result in vivid colors huh. Am I close?
