What a waste!

Emptied the pool yesterday, getting new tile, and the modern day equivalent of MARCITE. 30,000 gallons of water dumped. We have lived here 18 years and only second or third time we have emptied the pool, but hated to do it.

Hey - the water gets recycled by natural processes. It will end up back in your tap one day. The only thing that got "wasted" was the processing cost at the water treatment plant and you've paid for that. So... - be comforted. Nothing was wasted. You paid for your pool and it's enjoyment. Life is good.

My neighbor drains theirs yearly as well, i leave mine full just keep it in check. When you fill it get with the water co. and let them know to not charge for the sewage.

We had one for 13 years, in the ground 20 by 40! The kids and friends enjoyed it, to me it was a royal PITA! Guess who cleaned it and maintained it. It's amazing just how many are filled in after a while. Most properties with them are a hard sell. My wife was a broker for 28 years and hated to list any property with a pool as it took twice to three times the work and out put to get rid of it. Sorry for the rant, just personal experiences. PJ

So true. Even an above ground like I set up over the weekend. I didn't want another, for your reasons stated, but my girlfriend came home with it. (sigh) So I bought the first round of chlorine, new test kit, thermometer, etc...and added electricity cost for the pump running. And of course, I am the designated pool cleaner.

Fortunately, water is CHEAP here and for some reason there is a tap in my backyard that is connected to an adjacent house, which is currently empty. smoking smiley

It is nice to take a dip after a bike ride or just before bed.

We got a large above ground last year, and they certainly are a PITA. In my case it was my wife and daughter who came home with it. It's about 11,000 gallons, and needs to be drained every year. I spent about 4 hours working on it yesterday, and got a nice sunburn, so the grandkids could play in it for 15 minutes. eye rolling smiley

At least it has a saltwater system, so it's a little less work!

We have a pool and I hate to say it but I think it is a waste. If it were up to me, it would be filled in but I am outnumbered 3 to 1 eye rolling smiley

It is a PITA to take care of and, like was said above, guess gets to take care of it. And, I don't get in the pool; I'd rather ride my bike than get in the pool. But, the kids love it, especially the grand kid. So, I guess it is worth it in the long run.

We have a salt system. The water is easier on the clothes, skin and eyes. It does take a lot of acid to keep things in balance, though. The electricity bill is the shocker! When we put on the solar system, we had a high-efficency variable speed pump put on at the same time. That really helped cut the cost. On the lowest speed, it is using 110w. I run it on high to get the pool sweep to run and then back it off to low for filtration/circulation,chlorine generation.

77 MGB - Four tone paint - some kind of electronic ignition - hood props - cheap tires - new springs all around - mixture of poly and rubber bushings - original exhaust - fuzzy seatcovers - stereo out of old F150 pickup - virtually no rust - right front wrecked and semi well repaired - just about right for me!

78 MGB - Done right by a good PO, and I only bought it. Tell Jim how nice it is. But I did put in a Datsun 5 speed.

It's probably been emptied 50 times from evaporation and refilled by rain. It'll recycle itself.
