This shot up B-26 over Tunisia had it's hydraulics and manual controls for the landing gear shot away but made a safe belly landing. Noting was said about the crew or what nearly tore off the left wing.

Amazing that they brought that aircraft down. Great photo.

A few years back I was researching my fathers B-24. I came across these famous photos on many different sites. I don't think those crews did as well as the crew in the B-26.

Agree!....Flak probably got the port wing!........Too she's one of many that were shot-up and returned.......

Some of the pics of wounded B-17's show aircraft that defy reason...........

Great pic!!!

Some interesting reading

http://home.fuse.net/vaughan/aircraft.htm

Maybe the aircraft is one of these

Also interesting co-incidence from the tailplane number 117 747

F117 is the stealth bomber

and of course the B747 is the jumbo

1968 MGB Purchased already dis-assembled which is why I'm often ignorant about what some parts are, and even more ignorant of where they go.

Those old war birds took a pounding and kept on going. I flew in a B17 a few years ago, and I'm here to tell you, those guys had guts to fly those tin cans in the conditions that they did.

I can't recall the number exactly, but I think it was around 10,000 bomber crews were lost over Germany.

War ain't romantic.
