international/domestic penis envy from the eunuchs....??? just adding more pure conjecture to the debate. Some of us don't feel the need to constantly defend or try to bolster our position....we have the 2nd amendment and it has been and will be upheld and has even been revived...end of story.

In reply to # 2052535 by manseau My goodness Steve, you are really quite emotional about this. To try and support your feeble view, you would jump on the bandwagon to convict Mr Zimmerman without due process, you would suggest that Mr Zimmerman has a racial problem, and you completely dismiss the component of personal responsibility for a person's actions by your ridiculous generalizations. The one thing that is clear to me, if I were the victim of crime on the street, I could count on you to look the other way and let the police deal with it after the fact.
"so if some punk kid speeds by you in a school zone when you catch up to him at the next light… you can pop the little shit right there?" Nice touch.

Why David… I don’t think I’m emotional about it at all.

I’ve used information provided by the FBI and anecdotal information from pro gun sites to make a determination that the danger you and others fear… really isn’t as dangerous as you project. In fact it’s apparent to me that if you have weapons in your house, you’re in far greater danger than I am.

I’m more than willing to give Mr. Zimmerman due process, but in your previous posts you don’t seem to be willing to give anyone you perceive to be a felon the same courtesy! You state that you’re ready to shoot anyone you deem “bad”… now, who’s being emotional about gun use?

The comment about my dismissing personal responsibility seems a bit strange, I clearly stated: “I personally don't blame the gun... I blame the person who uses it.” What part of that do you not understand?

Speaking of crime on the street… have you ever had to personally intervene to help save a victim from violent street crime? Or is that all just a macho hero fantasy you’re playing out?

The question about the speeder wasn’t there as a nice touch… I was attempting to ascertain the depths of your vigilantism. Every day I see reckless drivers put people at risk, but I have yet to see anyone ever threaten someone else with a gun, knife or other weapon.

David... that seems a bit clipped. You seem so terribly concerned about street crime, and yet you failed to let us know if you've ever even seen street violence or intervened personally to save someone.

Steve, you have cut me to the quick. My fragile ego leaves me no alternative than to end this. Ultimately I have to agree with you. “I personally don't blame the gun... I blame the person who uses it. What part of that do you not understand?" I now do understand the only solution is
ban ownership of guns so that I can enjoy the same sense of safety and well being that you do.

Kind regards,

David

I'll take that as a very convoluted... no, I've never even seen a street happen. Maintain the fantasy that your gun keeps you safe.

Maybe I can explain it this way. "the fantasy that your gun keeps you safe"; I have no fantasy about a gun keeping me safe. As a responsible family man I have a large insurance policy to protect my family if something happens to me at no small monthly expense. I never want to collect on that so I mitigate as much risk as possible in my life and don't engage in unnecessary "at risk behavior". The best insurance you buy is the kind you never use. Access to a gun doesn't make me safe, my behavior does. However, it doesn't hurt to have more insurance.

Regarding my being a victor or a victim or a disinterested third party on the street, what ever answer makes you feel better is fine with me. You have to look at yourself in the mirror in the morning the same as me. I'm all right with what I see.

Interesting comment Wyatt… you constantly defend your political position as did David, as has everyone else who’s posted on this thread. But, as usual when you lose the argument you resort to dick jokes, it’s almost like a checkered flag. Thanks for signaling that you can't defend your position.

Just so I understand your comment about the 2nd Amendment (btw: as a sign of respect, in this country we capitalized all constitutional references except for the word constitutional) are you saying we don’t need the Supreme Court anymore, that all Constitutional issues have been decided?

So it doesn't matter if America's current position on gun ownership is responsible for innocent lives being lost or not?

You are just arguing that:

1. No-one is going to tell me what I can and cannot do
2. This 200 year old position is "legal"

So, essentially you don't care about any of the arguments presented here at all, no matter how much evidence of the dangers of less-restricted gun ownership is presented.

As this debate appears to be winding down now is probably an appropriate time for MY opinion.

Pt. 1 I'm right, I always have been and I always will be, everyone else is wrong, they always have been and they always will be.
Pt. 2 Doesn't matter what you say or do - see Pt 1!

Interesting to see how people seem to like to make statements, but when challenged on them, they do not respond. How is debate at all possible when people refuse to back up their words with logic or evidence?

In an effort to find common ground, how about we get some consensus on two viewpoints that have been raised here, one from each side? Who will publicly sign up and support the following two statements? Naomi? Gerry? David? Kurt? Anyone?

1. There are some weapons that are simply too harmful to society for private citizens to freely own without regulation, control or restriction.

2. I do not support a total ban on the private ownership of firearms by US citizens.

I agree with both statements - who's with me from the pro-gun and pro-control sides? Put your money where your mouth is...

As a reasonable person Steve, I would agree with both statements.

The following is food for thought, not another foray into mindless babble.
In Oregon, certain convicted felons are allowed to have gun rights restored. Federal law says that no convicted felon can own a fire arm. Most states require licenses to carry concealed weapons. You don't need a concealed weapons license to buy a fire arm, but it will be concealed when you transport it. Are the same mind set of people that made these legal requirements going to be the ones who make further regulations? That is what concerns me. I now invoke Chris's caviat so that I can return to the life before I blundered into this thread. Where did I leave my Midget?
