Good stuff, sliced thick in a sandwitch with mustard and fresh sliced red onion. Question, though. What's a good brand. The only one I find out this way comes in a gold wrapped package at, of all places, Walmart. It's not too bad, but I remember once in NY down in Germantown on Lexington - I think it was in NY back when I was in the navy, I had a sandwich at a deli that was the best I've even run across. Might have been locally made. Yeah, I know, liver. Love it or hate it.

John.........ah yes, good ol'liverworst. Used to gitt 3-kinds. Round tube, you hadda slice; already sliced round tube; and a larger "SQUARE" sliced with white trim. I like mine 1/4" thick on mayo and topped with sweet pickle relish or slices. Now I'm gonna haffta open my "reserve" package of liverworst and have lunch. slobber-slobber ........Dell (WA)

Let's tell it like it is--LIVERWURST. Hated it as a kid but love it now.

That Walmart liverwurst is OK but actually the very best is Oscar Mayer. I like it on Garden Herb Triscuits with a little horseradish.

There used to be a place in Elkhart IN that made fried liverwurst sammiches that were dee-lish--it was featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives."

If you're getting Kretschmar braunschweiger at Wal-Mart that's about the best one that can be found easily. If you ever run across some that looks to be encased in fat or cold lard like real liver cheese or its in a sewn cloth wrapper with a seam down the side then you've found the real authentic stuff, but Kretschmar's is hard to beat. I like it with Kraft Miracle Whip salad dressing on whole wheat bread sandwich. Doris sometimes mixes in a little horse radish, (not very much at all), to spice it up as a spread on crackers and it makes a great sandwich too.

Dad turned me on to it and have been hooked since, Publix sells a brand but cant remember the name,,, rye bread toasted with butter and sauteed onions Nummmeeee!

JDW, you had me until you mentioned that salad dressing. Next time you're in a Dierbergs or Schnuck's, pick up a jar of Duke's Mayonnaise - originally the recipe of a Greenville housewife, the company has grown but it still isn't available everywhere - all states east of the Mississippi plus about 6 west of the big river. Or if you shop in Illinois, you can get it at Fresh Market or Schnuck's. The Kraft stuff is basically mayo with corn syrup and sugar added.

Sorry, Speedy, but it just ain't made it to New Mexico yet.

Duke's website says Plum Markets in Michigan carries it. Have you looked there?

never heard of them...so i checked...one in ann arbor at some organic food place...can't go there, it would be to much for my system to handle...not to mention all the GD bicyclists I'd have to run over with my truck in ann arbor on the way to the store...but tanks anywho

Hey! Easy on the bicyclists! Remamber what I started a few years ago on here when I sounded off about a bicycle race blocking up half of the city of Greenville like a colon after eating 5 pounds of cheese! I thought one guy was gonna come to my house and terrorize my wife and me for that...
