If I hold the phone with my shoulder, would that qualify as hands free?

IMO, no. It's designed to be held, and also it's really bad for your neck and shoulder to hold a phone that way, Joe. tongue sticking out smiley

considering I've been laid up the past week with back/neck problems, perhaps I should cancel the order !!

I think a lot of people count not holding the steering wheel as hands free. As an aside, I use an old cell phone mobile mic and a push-to-talk button on my shift lever to operate my mobile ham radio system - even though (in Oregon) as a Federally Licensed service we have been exempted from the hands-free rule when using our ham radios.

1979 Roadster (Big Red) daily driver.
