starter motor

I have to replace the starter motor on my 1952 MGTD/C and want to know if it is the same starter that is used on the MGTD 1.3L car? They look the same, but I want to be sure before I order it. The numbers on the starter case are:

25022E M35G 1 L3 1 12V

Thanks for any info that can be supplied.

Cheers, Terry

I could be wrong but, I think the starters are the same for all the TDs and TFs, including the 55 1500. PJ

Not sure what a 1.3 TD is as all TD's had a 1.25 engine. That said, the thing to watch for is the number of teeth on the spline. I believe early starters at the end of the TC run had fewer teeth maybe has some relationship with the smaller clutch?. Same starter was used on the TF, MGA and Spridget.

A 1.3L TD is what happens when the engine displacement is rounded from two digits to one. The convention is to round up on .05-.09, and round down from .00-.04; thus 1.25 becomes 1.3

Moss part numbers say all TDs and TFs use the same starters. TC starters are different, but the generators are interchangeable.

Was there a 1.3 liter MG engine?
1.3 liters = 1300 CCs.

There was an MG 1300 car, later model of the 1100. known as the Metro, Built between 1967 & 1973, the engine in it was actually 1275 CCs or 1.275 liters of a later design not consistent with any of the T series models.

Could be wrong but, to my knowledge there was never a 1300 CC or 1.3 liter MG (stock) engine.

I want to thank all of the individuals who replied to my question. I can now order the starter knowing it will fit the car - thanks again.

Cheers, Terry

I see what you mean Dave about rounding off the numbers. Sometimes I get too technical. Like the 55 TF 1500, which it actually isn't, being 1466 CCs. PJ
