Okay crew need to pick your brain again....I just replaced the battery to the car and it starts great....BUT now it won't turn off. I turn the key to the off position nothing....I can even start the car without the key in it. I'm guessing it may be the switch but not really sure. Any ideas?

Thanks

See if something is shorting out the brown wire and the white wire (should be on the same side of the fuse block). That would provide power all the time to the white side. Also, check to see if something is shorted between the horn wires and the green wires at the fuse block, would have the same effect.

Otherwise it is a conincident failure of the ignition switch. Disconnect where the white wire from the switch (to make sure it isn't being back fed) and try starting the car. If it starts, the white is hot all the time for another reason. If you have 12 VDC all the time at the white terminal at the switch with the white wire removed, the switch is bad.

If you had one of the fuses out, check that you put it back into the correct slot. It is possible to put a fuse between the two fuse holders and then start the car and drive off with it (scary). This goes along with what Dave B. stated about a short between the brown and white wires.

I forgot to write back...THANKS GUYS! It was the fuse I feel so silly now. My dad and I were replacing a ground wire and he moved the fuse and put it back in the middle spot. That must have been what drained the battery dead. Oh well it's all fixed now glad it was that easy!

Thanks again I would have never thought of looking there. Who would have thought it would be that easy to just start the car by moving a fuse. Guess people were a lot more trusting back in the day.
