I am reassembling the carbs from '53 TD....My question is regarding the 3 washers ( 2 red fiber and 1 brass shim )kit for the banjo bolt that secures the float bowl to the carb body. These 3 washer kit ( moss pn # 370-700 )...do I use all 3 with the brass shim in the middle of the stack ?? Thanks for any input !!! Rich

I believe that the two hard-fiber washers go on either side of the banjo fitting, and the brass washer, goes under the bolt head, to protect the fiber washer, and allow turning of the bolt, without damage to the fiber washer.
Pressure deforms (slightly), the fiber, and acts as a seal.

If you look at the Moss catalog, all three washers go between the head of the banjo bolt and the arm of the float bowl. There is a separate fiber washer that goes between the float bowl arm and the carburetor body. I suspect that the brass washer goes between the two fiber washers on the bottom side of the float bowl arm, but I am not 100% sure of that. It should have something on this in the shop manual.

Dave,
You are correct there is a separate waher that goes ontop ( the new one I got is aluminum ). I think you are correct about the arrangement. I couldn't find anything in the manual on my first go round...but sometimes my eyes don't work as I wish they would...will try again. Really can't figure the purpose however..shimming distance ? or torqueing resistence ?? Anyhow really appreciate your input !!!!!!! Thanks Rich

Spoke to Kelvin Dodd at Moss Techline this week and he confirmed that the 2 red fibre washer do indeed sandwich the brass shim. He wasn't totally sure why, but thought it was to protect against washers distorting during tightening.
