It's ready for the sand blaster. Just loaded it on the trailer. But, I now found out I have to wait until next Wednesday, as their work schedule is full till then.

Paul:

What did you do to rebuild the springs? I've got a set of rear springs for my MGB race car that need a LOT of TLC. Would be very happy if they turned out like yours!

Rick, I just took them apart, cleaned them up, painted them and installed all new rubber leaf separators and mounts. I think the B springs are a little different, not sure. PJ

Had the chassis blasted. Glad I didn't do it! First photo tells why.
It's now in the shop, primed and waiting on final paint. PJ

Nice and clean, ready for paint. Left the cowl braces on only for blasting.

What type of paint? Results are great!

Rick

PS: I had my MGB tub blasted as well (and for the same reason!). Turned out great.

Rick, The chassis was primed with black acrylic primer and the outer coat is 2 coats of Martin Senior "Tough Coat", semi gloss acrylic enamel. Even though this car will look very presentable and as close to right as possible with all matching numbers, I'm building it to drive, not for a trailer queen. I've been that route and to me, it becomes very boring. PJ

Nice to know everything is moving along very well. Here's some shots of the frame. PJ

I still can't quite tell why it was taken apart in the first place...? It was gorgeous before! thumbs up

...but it looks like you're coming along really well. If it takes you five years I'd be amazed. You've covered quite a bit in a few short months.
Can't wait to see the finished thing. It'll be an absolute gem.

Hi Paul - things are looking good - you are moving fast.

I did notice you have the rear harness running back up the right side of the frame - didn't know if this was just temporary until the body was back on.

It will eventually run across the back frame cross tube - with one strand going up and into the tag light with the other going to the right side tail lights.

Looking good though

Jeff

Jeff, Thanks for the input. My TF has the fuel pump mounted atop the frame on the right side, a factory change over, contrary to the earlier models which were on the fire wall. Thus the wiring running back up the right side. It's only for the fuel pump. PJ

Here's where the wires go up the right side.

Even though I have new brake line straps, I left them off for now, as the rear will most likley be sent out for a gear change. Wish I did it sooner, but that's life. PJ

Here's a before and after chassis Scott. The car wasn't as nice as the original photo depicts. In fact there were quite a few issues. Chassis had a twist in it, a couple of the brakes needed repairing, so I replaced the whole system, the engine had 2 freeze plugs leaking plus other things were wrong. So, a frame off was in order. It's engine time! Getting the engine ready for paint. New throw out bearing, new front oil seal conversion to lip type and now waiting for delivery of new brass core plugs. Even though the engine has about 10 hrs on it since rebuild, a couple of the core plugs were weeping, so I decided to replace all of them with brass. The green primer is zinc chromate, which I use on all aluminum parts. Went a little crazy with it elsewhere. Had to Heli-Coil the five bell housing bolt holes in the aluminum pan, as three of them were stripped out. Can't wait to get it back in the frame so I can get the running gear finished up, other than the rear, as it'll go out to get a gear change. PJ

Paul:

What type of engine hoist is that? Thinking about picking one up and am starting to look seriously.

Rick, I'm not sure of the make. I've had it a long time. It's a 2,000 lb hoist and the one main thing I like about it is, it's legs fold up for storage. I think I bought it at Tractor Supply in Florance, but not sure. CRS memory problem you know.

Paul,
Just wondering why do you use the zinc chromate primer on the alunminum pieces? Will you eventually paint them or what is your plan?

Regards,
Mike

Mike, Yes the pieces will get painted. Reason I use zinc chromate on aluminum is it doesn't react with it and push the paint off. We used it in the Navy on jet aircraft as a primer for years. I guess it still is in use in some form. Without a good non reacting primer under it, paint will eventually loosen and peal off of an aluminum surface, especially if its smooth. PJ

Engines in with minor work to be done. I just wanted it off the hoist. The left motor mount needs modifying as it's too close to the steering shaft, a mod that the factory should have done during manufacture. Just about every one I've heard of hits there during hard bumps or hard right hand cornering. PJ
