Friends.

FYI. I was very dissapointed to find out last week that if you are a new buyer of parts from Moss Motors USA and based overseas, they tell you in the first instance to make a bank "wire" transfer. They do not imediately accept credit cards such as VISA or MasterCard

This means people like me had to make allot of extra effort, go to the bank, pay extra bank charges and then send the moeny. Yes, it cost me more. Whereas if they took my credit card, Moss would have been paid instantaneously.

In addition, if I was allowed to use my credit card, I would have benefitted from the credit card rewards program. This benefit I also lost on this $1150 transaction as the result of this policy of wire transfer. I now have to wait till they receive the money before they ship the items I have orderd. Thus more delays. Kinda frustrating.

Ebay, amazon.com, PayPal, NAMGAR etc all take credit cards first and every time. So why not Moss Motors?

Anyway, Moss is a very good company and provides an excellent service for us proud MG/MGA owners. They just need to get with the times.

Just my experience and thoughts. Cheers. Erik

It's to prevent fraud. The vendors I deal with at work do the same thing. And I am ordering from the USA. Once you are established...then you are good to go. Did you try Moss UK, or MGOC?

Thanks Donald. Appreciate your feedback. For me it is completely new as @ Amazon.com and Ebay I was never asked. And neither do we in the hotel business. Credit card fraud is extremely rare. Anyway I have learnt something new. Maybe we could have been advised why. Again, very best wishes. Erik

Maybe they accept PayPal? They must have gotten burned by some overseas sales at one point.

Thanks Drew. Could be. For us living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia it is much more of a hassle to send / wire money at a Bank. They want to know why, who, what for etc. Anyway, I sent the money last Wednesday and hopefully they will have receive it today. Look forward to recieving my new MGA tonneau, MotoLita steering wheel etc. Best wishes. Erik

Eric, my perspective comes from being a business owner with our website listed in a number of places. I get at least 6 emails a day, some times more, (that's a day, not a week/month) from scammers wanting to buy equipment with a credit card. Stolen credit card numbers and info are evidently easy to buy in bulk.

These soliticitation are easy to spot, the equipment list is almost always the same and/or the syntax of the message gives it away. I have managed to solicit the card number up front and alert the owners of the card in several cases but I can't always do it; I would easily spend the better part of the day at it.

The methodology is the same; the scammer requests a price on equipment, paid for with a credit card. They always require overnight shipping. It used to be that they wanted it shipped out of country but in the last couple of years they supply a US address. That "work at home" scam, which involves re-shipping the stolen swag, has been well documented. The company name they supply is usually a fake, but not always. Sometimes they get accurate information including a company employees name but supply a different address.

So if you were to go through with the transaction you would find that in a couple of days the funds would be yanked out of your bank account by the credit card processor. You would be out of the equipment, the overnight shipping, and the funds.

So, the buying public should be aware that this is potentially a huge loss to companies who do business on the internet. These thefts are rarely followed up by authorities since they almost always originate outside the country where the transaction is taking place.

If you are in the hospitality business you don't have the same exposure to these kinds of risks, since you don't sell a hard product that can be stolen, then resold. But I can assure you, in all the other areas where you do buy from the internet, the sellers are having to mark up the products to cover the costs of this rampant fraud.

So are you in the Philippines or in Arabia? There too exists the possibility of dealing with any of the several vendors that support this site in a number of ways. FWIW.

Erik.

Sorry for the run around. Moss did get hit by a large number of fraudulent credit card charges. It became a necessity to require first time foreign buyers to jump through some hoops to protect the company.

Hi Robert

Nice to hear from you. I work and live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and order parts to be sent here. Then I ship them in a secure manner to the Philippines. That is where my lovely MGA is. The customs people in the Philiipines are not easy to deal with, especially if you live overseas.

Cheers

I ship to outside the US, what I do there is wait for the money to clear in my bank, much like one would do with check, then ship the goods when the money has cleared at my bank, so you could use your credit card, I'm Moss distributor, so anything they have I can get for you. not trying to cut the Moss out of a deal, but if you need, or prefer to use your cerdit card, I'll accept it under those conditions.
