if you are clever, you can reinforce the AL hood and still use the struts.

It has been done.

The issue is bending at the mounting point on the hood IF one is too sudden in closing the hood. Easy does it should never be a problem, but an adhesive -fastened reinforcement plate would make the issue moot.

Rick can;'t comment, I guess, because it might involve other issues.

I've seen pics here, so look hard and research the matter.

Yea mine is slightly bent at the mounting point. I am hopping to reinforce it some how.
