1962 MG MGB "Super B"
Someone has to start the Motorsport BBS, so I have attached another MGB win that Skye might consider adding to his list of Historic MGB races. The results are from the 1966 Players 200 in Mosport. That is the car I am restoring, supercharged and all.

Wow!! That is awesome that your car has such a history!!
How did you end up owning it? Do you race it also or have you retired it from the track?
Cheers,
Eric

My MGB project. After knowing the history and wherabouts of this abandoned MGB since 1986, I finally rescued it from vandalism and deterioration from a small town. This MGB was a race car from the day it was delivered to Canada from BMC. All the numbers were stripped by BMC, but have found the car number stamped on the frame and know it is a 1962, first year MGB. I know the first owner/builder and every other race car driver that terrorized Western Canada tracks with it. Both the car and I are in Saskatchewan. The first owner was Al Pease, a bit of a Canadian racing icon that went on to race in Formula 1.
I like the MGB's in Motorsport forum idea and thought mine might be appropriate, as it is so unique.
Some of the hi-lights include, alloy fenders, hood, bonnet, hand beaten alloy front valance, radiator venturi, all-aluminum door hinges, and the most unique feature is a Supercharger on an HRG cross-flow head. Unfortunately, the supercharger was stolen, and I had to find a period replacement that is very close to the original. The original roll-hoop is gone and a "one-of" aluminum tonneau deck is lost.
I will use this link to some pictures to save Skye's bandwidth http://groups.msn.com/WinnipegSportsCarClub/mgbghost.msnw?albumlist=2
My intention is restoration to the original owners style as the "SuperB". He is still around (84 years old), lives in Tennessee, and is very helpful. His racing career in the 60's is quite famous in Canada and his car is a worthy candidate to be returned to its original glory. The car is still a long ways off from matching the original car but it will compete in a few vintage races once running. It will likely end up in a Museum, hopefully the Canadian Motorsport hall of Fame. (Al Pease is already an inductee)
I am trying to locate a few weird parts still, like the roll hoop and tonneau deck, but will likely just fabricate to match. The tub has been blasted, painted the underside, engine bay, passenger compartment, trunk and the visible body is in primer. The suspension is restored and back on it's wheels. Ready for final body work and paint. The engine has been torn down and am getting ready to re-build.
Sorry about the long post, but it is not easy to describe the car and history in a few lines. Hope the pictures at the link help.

Thanks for the pictures and the story. What a sad state to find the car in, but you are doing a great job on it!!
Keep us all posted on your progress of work. What kind of timeframe do you have for completion? Is Al Pease interested in taking it out for a few laps aroung the track when you are finished?
I went to some vintage races a while back where they had 2 vintage MG racers that were restored and they had a reunion with the original drivers and remaining members of the team. It was cool to see the cars, but I missed the reunion part. Some pics at: http://www.mg-mgb.com/pictures.html

Eric,
I was planning to have the car ready for last years vintage festival in Mosport, and Al Pease was going to drive, but like all restorations, they take 4 times as long as you think, so it won't be ready this year either. Working for a living always gets in the way, maybe next year.

Looks very interesting, very early crossflow cylinder head? Are you doing all the restoration work yourself or having a shop do some of it? Maybe one of the MGT series superchargers now available would suit?

How about running the car over here at Race City in Calgary, it's a damned site closer to you than Mosport! If you're interested details of my 5.0 RV8 replica on the V6/V8 forum.

Cheers

Gavin,
I wish I would have know about your RV8 on about Friday. I just returned from a boring weekend in Calgary, and would have enjoyed seeing you car. I was actually at Race City Speedway before I came home, visiting my old stomping grounds. I was at the first ever race at RCMP in my Formula Ford.
Yes my MGB is very early crossflow, and most restoration work I do on my own, but will have machine shop do engine and blower work I need done.
Once completed I am sure to return to Race City and Gimli for a few events before going out east to Mosport.
Nice work on the RV8, from what I have seen.

That's an impressive list of cars that the SuperB beat.

David
I have an ad from a magazine, not sure of the date, that was put out by MGB congratulating Al and this MGB for another win.

Holy Gilbert Grape! Who or you made the manifold to get onto the head? Why a Web DGv? Is that an Easten what 90? How's it go? What did you do for actual CR with the alum head? I'd love to try that on my 71 split-tail which just received a Burgess ground x-flow. Guess I'd try an 80 thou copper head gasket, or can you still run above 10:1 CR with the alloy?

Vic,
Yes you need one of these ... sorry this is the only one in the world right now. I don't know how or who could make a match of this. So many questions, and I just don't have all the answers yet. Will try to update when time permits.
