I know there are a few MGB racers running these. Could anyone share details on set up? How is the oil pan is configured,
pump size, etc. ?

How about distributor gears?

Any information would be appreciated.

Hey Bob. I've done a number of external pump wet sump MGBs over the years. I've always used the Pace pump from Fast Forward. I think Peterson also makes a viable pump.

The pan is baffled like a wet sump pan. I bring a suction tube in from the side and use an inline screen to protect the pump. I also put an "umbrella" over the end of the tube to discourage the sucking of aerated oil from directly over the tube opening.

I also turn the center cam bearing so it doesn't feed oil to the oil galley which pressures the OE pump spindle since that's now just an open hole and will leak a lot of oil. Or you can seal a round plug into the pump spindle hole to seal it off.

One issue with the Pace pump is it's tendency to stick the regulator piston if it sees any small debris. It's designed to see filtered oil from a dry sump tank, and instead is seeing unfiltered oil from the pan. The next one of these I do I'll take a hard look at using the MGB in-block regulator so I can regulate filtered oil. I think this is doable.

I drive the pump at 50% crank RPM via a second belt off the water pump. A V-belt works well for this since you don't need a "timing function" that a Gilmer belt provides and V-belts are less sensitive to alignment of the pulleys.
