A new season - Two New Tracks - MG NatMeet 2012

After a rather disasterous season end last year (one blown motor, one blown clutch, one damaged gearbox) I have had a rather inauspicious start to the season after a really rushed prep. I hit the track last weekend after just managing to get the engine back in the car the day before. With no dyno I really just wanted to check things out and find all the nuts and bolts we hadn't tightened up.

An oil leak from the hose joint at the filter. I dropped my generator onto my engine mount. I even lost my helmet visor fastener on one side when I slammed the visor down heading out onto the track!!! Everything else seemed OK. I even asked the scrutineers to look a little more closely to spot anything I missed - and you will rarely hear me say THAT to a scrutineer.

Fail to prepare... prepare to fail.

But that was what I was looking for from that session because this week I head off to Tasmania for our 2012 MG National Meeting. 1200 kilometres (745 miles) with a 9 hour ferry trip in the middle.

BUT this will mean I can tick off 2 more tracks from my bucket list:

Quick update. Best laid plans.

The dyno guys are having hassles tuning my car so my nice, early departure today to break the 8 hour trip in two may be thrown a little. Looks like it will be a straight through drive on Wednesday (if they get the car finished today).

Seems they didn't like the fuel I had in the car so I had to drain it out this morning and replace it with fresh AVGAS. Looks like the compression was a little higher than I calculated.

Fingers crossed.

And while I am waiting, these are the Motorkhana courses I will be getting lost on, on Monday. Not quite the same as your "Solo One" courses.
