I grew up near him, but never met him. A local legend even in the 60's. His book "The Chevrolet Racing Engine" has been and still is one of my all time favourites, and needs to be reprinted and studied by anyone who wants to play with these things. I'll go further and say it is how to approach life itself.

He built the V6 turbo Corvette GTP engine, the Doc Bundy and some South Africa guy drove in IMSA, back in the late 80s, I watched that car win it's only race at Road Atlanta. RIP.

This is a HUGE lost to the racing world. He didn't have the flare that Smokey Yunick had, but he was at least as equal in mind and was more disciplined to his craft than Smokey. A lot of the American racing engine world has to give credit to Grumpy Bill. Definitely a master at his craft.
