Today the race car made it out of the garage for the first time in 4 months, the rear upper shock mounts are in place (but not quite complete as yet) final fixing required plus structural separation from the cabin.

Pics show cars new and improved stance/track width, the car at present is on its set up bars and not dampers while final adjustments are made, it certainly seems very light moving it around the yard.

Also attached is one new pic from Dave of the engine prior to firing it up for the first time

Myself and my Dad will definitly be having a beer tonight!

Thanks everyone for the comments!

It was one of those really good days working on the car where you feel you achieve a lot and more importantly the end seems very much in sight

David, we can't wait to finish the body as well you might all be a little surprised what it ends up looking like, lets just say it will be the opposite to the more up to date suspension and engine

Shaun, i have attached a pic that shows the belts more clearly smiling smiley

Is that a dry sump pump or an external wet sump pump? Sump looks awfully deep it it's a dry sump?? I'm interested to know more as I hope to go to dry sump in the future.

Thanks Fred Bad Ass is kinda the plan thumbs up smiley

Well the things we wanted to achieve at the start of the build were,
- Build the lightest B GT we possibly could
- Lower the cars CG as far as possible
- Ensure the suspension was not only very adjustable but very easy to adjust
- Get Dave to build us a hell of an engine smiling smiley
- Make the car look the part too
- An hope its pretty fast at the end of it!

The part about the lightness and low CG may have driven everyone working on the car insane at various points in the last few months, every item or bit of body work and i do mean everything has to go through the can it be made of slightly thinner or lighter weight metal/fibreglass/plastic or could it be redesigned to use less parts process (I am sorry for that to people reading this who have helped build the car, i blame the OCD!)

Andrew, it is a dry sump if you compare the two engine pics above you can see the sump depth is asymmetrical

Last pic of the engine below

Shaun,
With regards to the welding, credit where credit is due, all our work is done by Rob Mason a family member who lives in the same village as ourselves, he is also known as the "Technical Director"!!! a complete petrol head who somehow manages to provide sollutions to many of the build problems we have encountered with the race car project, what he dosn`t know about welding metals isnt worth knowing!!
What with Toms OCD and my drive for originality confused smiley you can imagine we need Rob to clear the fog sometimesthumbs up but thats all in the challenge of building what we believe is a unique race car! Happy dayscool smiley

I'm smiling at the Chrysler blue. Dennis Shaw (of Team Highball IMSA fame), here in Raleigh, NC built my MGB motor and it's Ford blue. I asked Dennis why and he said because he got a good deal on the paint! I like it as it's not the same dark red you normally see on MGB motors.

Rick, when I first started FAB-TEK as a business, I decided it would be worth having a "brand" color. Customers can choose other colors but the Brook's chose to stay with the Chrysler Blue.smileys with beer

Hey Rick,

I finally met Dennis at the Prod Fest last fall. I have a lot of respect for him, he knows how to make Miata tail lights get small in a hurry. I didn't know he was doing any B stuff.

Hi all,

Spent a day of annual leave off work in the garage working on the car, project of the day was stripping/cleaning an old engine block then using that to mock up the new solid engine mounts, the engine should be more "quick release" than with the standard mounts and it should allow us to move the engine slightly down and back from its standard position.

And i do like the Fab Tek blue for the engine as Rick said its a little different to the typical MG colours and it will match the suspension well, might clash a bit with the red engine bay though... smiling smiley

Have a great day everyone

I PM'd Tom to hold off on the mounts to assure the RH side clears the oil pump plumbing.smileys with beer

Hi Dave

Don't worry just mocking things up, there will be no welding done until the engine arrives thumbs up
