Not quite, but almost...

A more current picture is attached. Needs a new RF fender, RR flare and repairs to the RR fender.

Rick, I'd say the foam is trashed after ten years of storage. Is that a 12 gal. cell? I'll be going with an 8 or 12, whichever I find first. If I buy new, I'll go with the 12. I'm also looking for a 17" seat if anyone has one for sale. I'm looking at the spec Miata seat and think it could be a good choice if I have to buy new, but I really want to sit in one before I buy. Do my eyes decive me or does your car have a coil-over rear suspension?

Coil over is legal and preferred in SCCA.

I'd defiitely go with a road racing seat. I'm not sure where Bland VA is winking smiley, but in Northern VA there are two places I know where you can go into the show room and sit in the seats.

I have a 17" Kirkey Road Racing set now. Before I had a round track Kirkey seat that i bought off of ebay. It was a great seat, but in my yellow Miata, the same seat's rib protectors rubbed my biceps raw.

Make sure your cage builder accounts for a good seat brace, or look to get one from IO Port racing. Seat mounting should be done with good consideration.

This crash I had changed my perspective on safety equipment and seat mounting.

David:

Coil overs front and rear. That's why I asked about SCCA versus vintage. My own car has coil over fronts (but easily removable for a vintage-legal suspension) and leaf spring rears.

I agree with your comment about the foam, but I'll take a look.

I also agree with Fred. I've got a Kirkey Road Racing seat as well.

I/O Port Racing is having a year-end sale through 1/8/12 you may want to take advantage of. That's where I got mine.

One of the nice things about a Kirky seat is they can be adjusted to address the things Fred mentioned. While not easy, you can bend the wings in and out and also add padding to move your "butt" up. Walmart sells some fairly dense padding in the form of a roll up camping bed/mat which is affordable and can be cut up to customize the seat to fit the driver.devil smiley

Here are the two seats I mention. The photo of the road racing seat is not that good, but you can easily do a google images search and it will probably pop right up.

Good looking car, Rick. I guess you're rebuilding to put back on the track. I take it that is the fuel cell for sale. Is it a 10 or 12 gal. cell? Also, do my eyes decieve me or is that a coil over suspension under the rear of the car?

Sorry, didn't turn to page 2 and thought my post didn't go through. That's what happens when i'm supposed to be working!

David:

I actually bought the car for the SC/CR gearbox! At the time I wasn't sure if I would be able to repair the one for my car.

Total acquisition cost was not significant. I figured I could get a lot of that back by selling off the parts I did not need (hence the fuel cell post a few months back, etc.), and might end up with a "free" gearbox. Now I'm feeling like it would be a shame to part it out though.

I'll measure the seat while I am at the storage garage. I have two others that I'll measure as well, but I think they are narrower than 17 inches.

Let me know if you want more pictures. There are gauges, Accusump, electronic ignition, Mallory distributor, intake and headers, etc. that might work on your build. Also has a Comptune head.

Or let me know if you want a package deal. winking smiley

I also agree with Fred on the Kirkey seats. I had a Kirkey with the rib protectors in my LPHP Fiesta and even with the mods Dave suggests it still seemed to get in the way.

I live very close to where interstates 77 and 81 cross in southwest Virginia. Bland is actually between the two tunnels that interstate 77 runs through. I can make a trip somewhere to try out a seat if I need to, but Charlotte NC is probably closer. Rick, Raleigh wouldn't be too bad of a trip either if you've got something that will work. Take some pics if you don't mind and we'll see what we can work out. I'm planning on travelling to Carlyle PA in the spring for the swap meet and want to see what I can find there also.

David,

I have flea market spaces at both Spring and Fall Carlisle that I don't use much any more. If you're interested in either or both, either one-time or permanently, shoot me a PM and we can discuss.

I doubt you'll find any racing stuff at Carlisle. You are starting to barely find any fleamarket stuff. Ebay Motors is a place where you should set up a saved search under MGB Race, MGB Racing, etc. It will give you daily updates of what/if anything is posted. Ebay is where I found my windscreen and 4.3 rear end for example among other items too.

Fred:

Nice wrap!

Can you PM me the approximate cost? Thought it might be an alternative to a more expensive paint job (i.e., go Maaco and then wrap the car).

Of course I didn't pay for mine, but my "wrap" cost as much as a decent paint job - but they did it in quite a heavy vinyl because the car is dark blue underneath and they had to stop it showing through the white (and they give a four year guarantee on the heavy stuff, so that was a bonus).

Since I wrecked the back corner by snagging a tyrewall I will now see what it is like to properly "patch" the design (I survived the rest of the season with a makeshift patch job that looked OK from trackside).

EDIT: A quick Google will find some ideas for you and American companies, but I found this place in England (I liked the cars on their website):

http://www.totally-dynamic.co.uk/

- and (if you can do the conversion) they say:

"A full colour vehicle wrap on an average size car, including design, production and installation, costs from only £1500 and when produced on high quality film will last for 3-5 years"

Rick, did you get my PM about the parts? Definitly interested. I may also be changing my mind about going to Carlisle, PA. I do however have a lot of parts for sale since I've decided to race and not put my car on the street. Selling these would be my main reason for attending Carlisle. Any suggestions other than e-bay? Or is that the best way to sell them off?

Got your PM. Will get you some more information next weekend.

Let me know if you pursue the Carlisle option. I have a lot of Rolls-Royce parts from my Dad's cars (now sold) to sell. May have a RR expert in FL who is interested but have not heard back from him.

My Mom would like them gone from her basement...
