Less than three weeks away who is in? Always a great event with lots of track time. Only 4 MG's registered so far (Bubba, Rick M, my father and myself) but there should be at least ten in attendance in my expectations are correct.

I promised Rick S. an in car video from Roebling so here is the link.

Link to Video

Hope to see you all there!

I'll be there!!! devil smiley

Are you going to bring the GT or the Formula Ford?

Rick

You might be a racer if;
You consider the redline as a "conservative suggestion" and the rev limiter a "fun limiter".

I'll be there in the GT and Dad will be in the MGA... the Formula Ford is still recovering from chewing a lifter at Road Atlanta.

Thanks for the video link, but I won't make it after all. Work got in the way. Will be at the Gold Cup though...

I wish all of you dry weather. My one and only trip to RR was a frog choker, and cold to boot. I'm headed to Texas World Speedway next weekend, I don't think it has rained here since early April and it's been over 100 degrees every day for nearly 2 months. Good times!

I sent my paperwork off to VDCA the other day. You guys have a good time, wish I could be there, but I'll have to wait until Dec. for the finale. I'll be about as far away from Roebling Road as one could get during that time, but you guys will be on mind.

...a few more minor things left to-do and Miss Daisy is ready to go. Had the Accusump rebuilt, replaced the (pseudo) windscreen, built new dashboard panel to have better visibility of gauges, installed Traqmate and transponder. How exciting.....se y'all at the track Friday night for Tech.smileys with beer

Bubba posted a video of some TR4 veering off and ultimately totalling itself thanks to a stuck throttle.

But no updates given otherwise.

I had a good weekend overall. Temps were in the 60s most of time but dry. As is typical for this 2-day event the number of entrants was not very high and we shared the track with a large group of modern Camaros and Corvettes.

My car ran a little too rich all weekend and I also discovered that my transponder was not working so race control timed me manually as best as they could. I managed a lap in the 1:29s but was mostly turning low 1:30s.

The stuck throttle incident with the TR4 was unfortunate but luckily the driver escaped without any injuries. I passed him at the exit of T1 and almost moved over to the left of the track braking into T3 when I caught a glimpse of him passing me on my left. I was surprised by the move and then watched him go off and roll into the berm. Too bad but he is in good spirits and was going to rebuild the car if the frame did not get bend too severely.

More updates for me....

Elva made one lap, tagged #4 exh. valve, bent pushrod. Spent a bit of time burning fingers trying to evaluate/fix before finding guide was fractured from event, not something to fix well at track... Not sure why it happened, but can only think I missed just ever so slightly on build clearances...don't want to accept that, as I took all the care, etc... But............. nothing else explains what I saw...

Anyway, I had brought along "old blue" (Max Herrera/Doc Rogers old F/G Midget). Did some fancy footwork with good race folks to get car onto the program... Then battery was was flat...had to fit one from wench, different size of course... Went out for Sat. qualifying.... ran fine, but first lap was at 8K by S/F....2nd lap it was @ first of pit lane.... Not so great. Ran the session, but it was sure hard to keep out of it down straight... Came in, had hour and half before race... 22's in car, spare 22's in trailer... chatted with my crew about what to do... we both thought just run it... however, there sat the Courier, with it's 3.9's.....hummmm Wasted about 20 minutes in indecision... crew wandered off to check out Alfas... when he came back, the Elva's ass was in the air, wheels off, and a greasy driver below....he asked what was up...I told him cleaning parts, find the scraper, wire brush, and brake clean, as I handed off a cool 3.9 gear chunk... Back under the Midget, same drill... Got the cleaned chunk, rolled under car and lube fell into my glasses from the pinion...slather up the joint with RTV..stuff it in, as the called up to the grid..15 minutes... got the wheel on one side, onto ground, poured a bottle of lube in tube, then other axle, wheel, as the count went to 5 mins... Got suit on, buckled up, headed to grid as they rolled out.. Held at pit out, for the green, chased off after pack with pine straw, sand, whatever on the tires....

My 2nd lap was my fastest... started catching cars... worked up to 7th OA, with 4th fastest time... thought clutch was slipping a bit going into 4th...but overall rather pleased with how things ran. Then had to put all the rear pieces back on the Elva before dinner.

Sunday, didn't run the Enduro... Did wait for the sprint finale...sprayed some brake clean into bellhousing while waiting. Took off to grid, had a weird noise when letting out the clutch, but it held. Was gridded 4th OA based on the lap times.. Ran pretty hard, stayed with first 3 for a couple of laps,...got by a very clean red B from Va. for 3rd and set sail after 2nd place Midget... think I was catching him a bit, while we both were closing on the 1800 Elva in the lead... About lap 7 or so, dropped into 3rd for left before carousel and had a bang...thought clutch had blown up, put a rod out, or something not good... engine was still running, oil pressure was ok, seemed to have drive in 4th, so pedalled around to pits and came in... dropped down a gear, absolutely nothing for drive, so deadsticked it into/thur paddock into the trailer, where I almost made it all the way...missed by about an inch or two and hit a box of oil/grease and some parts boxes on left side... RHD can be challenging at times...

Quickly strapped down the car, pushed the Elva behind, threw in the tent polls, was was in line to cross as the race finished. Changed clothes on outside of track and was headed home by 1330...ET. About 50 miles down the road on a 2 lane, felt something surging in the back.. pulled over and found the front of the Midget was unhooked, fixed that, was home about 2030CT...WITH a break for a sit down dinner... GA84 is a very good way over...got 2 mpg better than over 10, up 95.

Next day took Elva out of trailer, noticed the back of the Midget was shoved in. Only had a bit of blue on the FRP Elva nose..pretty stout! Took a rubber hammer to Midget, almost looks as good as before...

Got engine out next day, clutch looked brand new!?!.... pulled side cover off and saw about a third of the teeth on 3rd gear gone...laygear shortly behind... At least it was a stock box...

Take aways...

* More Body damage on car traveling home than racing....vintage racing is good.

* Got down to 1.26.6 in the race Sun. Felt more there, but pretty happy given how it started..

* Need to go back to RRR for SIC (leading SARRC in ITB) in 2 weeks, but not really hot on that idea...

* VDCA is still a great group to run with...need to get others to come play.

Bob, sorry to hear about the Elva trouble, I know you waited a long time for the motor to get built. I'm impressed with your decision to race the Midget and swap gears between races. Too bad about the gearbox, sounds like you were really flying. Chase all the gremlins away and you'll be back on the podium next time.

Bob, you coming to the December event, Freddy T. and myself will be there with the new MGB, would be good to see you again, which I'm sure we will now. Fred is also working on the Frog, and making progess to getting it back to SCCA racing. Also when fred gets his SCCA license back, he will probably do the vintage enduros with me.

Torsten, Novemeber 12th is the British Invasion at CMP, I plan on doing a track day the same day in the the MGB vintage car, so if you want come up and do the test days, come on we do it together. I fiquire it will be a good way to shake out the cobwebs for me and get used to the car before the Decmeber event. Anyone else interested in doing the test day is surely welcome as well.

Hap...

Probably not. That race date has always been same weekend as the PRI show in Orlando. My plan is to the PRI again this year.

I drove up to watch a couple of years ago, but even that took a good chunk of Sat. just getting there.

Buzz M. says he's planning on going with his Bugeye. Same with Hoffer.

I'd like to....but.....for now...not.

Okie
