Fitting the passenger side engine mount bracket

I'm finally getting around to trial fitting a 95 3.4L camaro engine in my B and have coupe questions with the 1st generation Guzman conversion kit. Do you need to grind off a boss to fit the mounting bracket to the block? All of the bolt holes in the bracket look punched and needed to be drilled out and filed so bolt hole line up with the block, not a big deal but was expecting a better fit. I heard that these brackets don't hold up well so I'm planning to weld some stiffeners on, anyone have experience with this? That steel is unstiffened and not real thick. Seen a couple posts where 1/4" round stock was welded on, not pictures though.... I have some 1/4" plate and will fit something on there, actually I intend to stiffen all 4 brackets. Appreciate the help.

I took a metal cutting wheel to it.

Hi Andy,

On the 3.4L, it has that extra bung on the side of the block that should be ground down. The earlier engines do not have this.

I have never seen the engine brackets give issue. With the previous generation of body mounts (not engine mounts) after a number of years, i have seen some movement on cars 'run hard and put away wet.' The set that was improved did not require much. Sheet metal is really all it would take to improve that because the motor mounts do bolt through pulling up as much as down.

In your photo, that sensor is the Crank position sensor.

Didn't grind mine down. Just welded a spacer to the underside of the bracket to shim out the other two holes.

Tom,

That is possible but can move the engine around a bit.

Just copied the way the original bracket was made. We made the brackets with the engine in place (sort of). To center it we centered the tranny output shaft in the center of the tunnel The last thing we did was secure the front mounts to the frame piece. Engine is awfully close side to side, level and ready to go.........
