MGRV8 Hood?

As I'm doing my '73 MGB conversion, I'm wondering, is installing an MGRV8 hood more a matter of style and convenience or is there a performance advantage? I'm putting in a 3.4L V6 w/carb. I understand I'll have to do some extra work to fit it under the stock hood, but I'm willing to do that. Just wanted to think about other possibilities. I need to replace my hood regardless as mine was recently damaged. Thanks.

The RV8 bonnet will indeed give you more room for your air cleaner...and provide a "cool factor" as well.

You can source a new fiberglass version of the RV8 bonnet from Dave Craddock of Preform Resources.

Dave has reinforced his RV8 bonnets to better receive my strut kits.

No performance advantage other than provision for increased air cleaner clearance and possibly provision for a cowl induction setup, but if you need a new hood anyway, it would be tough to beat the quality and price of Dave Craddock's products.

There might possibly be an advantage if the taller hood lets you use a different intake manifold, carburetor, or air cleaner. I think most V6 guys use a milled-down Edelbrock upper manifold to stay under a stock MGB bonnet. Can you use an un-modified Edelbrock upper manifold IF you're installing under an RV8 bulge?

On my Buick V8 conversion, my new RV8 bonnet skin provides additional room I could use for an Edelbrock 2198 manifold in lieu of my stock manifold (however, I'm more likely to use that room for a tall EFI plenum.)

Good to know about the strut fitment. Two good mods in one.

First of all, the quality of the RV8 bonnets (hood) are first class, how they fit and look.

The stock upper Edelbrock manifold will not fit with the RV8 hood. It will give more clearance to fit and early cleaner when used with our CNC manifold top.

In my GT project, a B that I have own since 1978 and has gone through several changes, race car to street car etc..
This time around includes the RV8 bonnet with some mods.
As per Rick, strong enough to grinning smileyuse our struts also.

Bill, Vents look good! What are they off of?

Yeah, I'm with Jim on that one Bill, those vents look great , I get a lot of inquiries about additional
louvers/vents to let hot air out. BTW; Ricks struts have been developed for lightweight hoods such as
fiberglass or aluminum.

They came out of a 1985 Pontiac Trans Am. At one time they could be bought at the dealership for $30 each, no longer available.
I also had the idea of doing vents like an Aston Martin.http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/convertibles/1102_2012_aston_martin_virage_look/photo_19.html

They clip on. I used our gas lifts on mine.grinning smiley

Guys, if you are planning on buying a RV8 bonnet (hood) get one from Dave, or CCE-- the fit is perfect. See in the picture the gap between the fender and the hood and the cowl and the hood. It is perfect.

I have bought a few fiberglass hoods in the past for different projects and they required some fitting.

Dave I owe you--- e-mail me.

We are finally getting around to painting my RV8 Bonnet.

For the 60 degree carb V6 crowd, there are two ways to go or combined together...

The CCE upper intake gives you the extra room you need.

or

The RV8 Bonnet (manufactured by Preform also sold through BMC) gives room as well

The combination gives far more room.

I like the style of the RV8 bonnet but cannot say on the street that it would give any tactical advantage but it does give a very aggressive appearance.
